what you miss the most in this background is, constant and crisp lines which define the structure and forms of your objects/elements in this picture.
for example the mountains or the sand needs 'em.
Otherwise i like the color combustion very much and the sky is beautiful, maybe use more colors for the sun and sunlight on the clouds.
I am not sure to which degree you aim for simplicity, but if you want to go in more detail i would give the mountains more structure, also the sand. Ocean sky are fine in that regard.

for a sunrise/down i prefer more red and strong contrast.

Tbh, I like both color-combos. Really, can't decide if Hari's or JustMe's looks better. Probably different from viewer to viewer.

Other than that, it's already a solid start. If you're going for LF2-ish backgrounds, you might want to study them a little closer; they usually have comparably few colors and sharp edges. I'm not quite a fan of it but I read the word "bg" and immediately associated it with LF2.

Also, what Phil said. Don't be shy to use a hard-edged brush for things such as mountain-ranges. Same goes for a bit of foam on the water. In addition, you might want to consider adding a focal-point somewhere. Even though it's just a background, those generally have some eye-candy as well. You could, for example, try to add a seagull somewhere

okay, i don't think it's better (maybe worse), but it was harder to make with hard brush, i have to learn use it properly.

scenery is really beautiful with your colours, but kinda too much colorful for me, i prefer mild colours, also don't have experience with huge amount of colours. btw. for me in your colours landscape reminds me sunset, when my is more like sunrise.

Phoenix: yeah first i was trying to make it as background to LF, but then i changed my plan. also don't like this sharp edges, so i trying to make more similar to yours works, but ofc trying to take into something "own". i think i'll make my art thread soon, cause i really liked this kind of drawing. actually i don't wanna add anything else to this picture, but try to make something new, eventaully improve this what i have so far.

you just took a bad base, her pose and her head ruined her feminin, especially her cyclops eyes. tentacle skirt are also nogo. just dont get demotivate.

quite long time i didn't make anything, but finally learned how to make sprites completely from scratch :P i hope now will be more active.

quite nice and clean, also similar to mundvolls style.
but i dont like 2 things: his breast is ball shaped/round, i must think on female balls
the other thing is his name. why ORION?! maybe a perverted angel
