Yes I know a good one. It's called "Google" :P
(Yes, really. Just google for some "hex-editors")

And in case you didn't try it out yet:
MH has made something like you said. It's under Projects called "2 Level LF2" (or something like this)

RE: Platform Technique - Deus Ex Machina - 08-20-2008

I was thinking, wouldn't it be possible to duplicate all chars, make one regular, one with the properties you specified, and one that is irregular (I'll explain a bit later)
You can make these 'platforms' have objects attached to them, that the player is guaranteed to touch at all times while on and directly under the platform. Now, the regular char, when in range, touches the object, and is transformed into a platformer. This character has a detection for when touching said object, because when it no longer does, it turns into the irregular char, which doesn't have to have too many frames, just the frames of the jump. Meaning, when said char goes out of range of the object, he turns into a character whose sole-purpose is to turn itself to the regular character upon landing (just change frame 94 to a louis transform)
You might have to change all the .dat files sprite numbering though, but in the end I think this gives the most satisfactory effect.

like this? not sure if you read laulis post :p

RE: Platform Technique - Deus Ex Machina - 08-21-2008

No, not *quite*
I'm not sure you read the whole post, Razen

EDIT:

I manage to keep the charater on the box for a very limited time, maybe it's the unknown framenumber 235 you reffered to in crouching and standing?

RE: Platform Technique - Zhyhm.Z - 08-21-2008

Is it possible to make somethings like this:

You jump and land on a box (a weapon)

Another player pick up the box

So you are standing on the box carried by another:

It's possible the other way round, so that the char has to pick up the box first then another one jumps on it.

@Deus Ex Machine: So much work for only those damn walking frames :/ (But it's good that you keep thinking about that method, and maybe even make a study example of it. ;))

RE: Platform Technique - Deus Ex Machina - 08-21-2008

Um, I found it's possible to make the box pick-uppable. It's exactly the same but for the on_hand.
That means no need to compromise stationary-mounting.
Though, how do I keep them on the box (the characters that are supposed to stand on the box)? They fall off after a short while!

EDIT:
Also, when I jump with one of these boxes while somebody is on them, said somebody falls to the ground (goes to the jumping frames).
Maybe there's a way to make them go up?

EDIT2:

And btw,
What about that frame 235?

EDIT3:

Hm, can't we have the itr/kind trigger produced by the box itself, rather than having to take up AI's limited programming? (AKA: They attack the box)

EDIT4:

And even if not, you can have the bandits lifespan say at 3 TU's, then you can have more opoints!
Therefore, you can put the picking-up opoint in almost all frames, while the summoning frame is only one, with 0 delay.

RE: Platform Technique - Lauli - 08-21-2008

Dude what actually are you talking about all the time? >.>
Anyways, the "Frame: 235" is just an additional standing frame, I just used 235 because it's the first frame after the basic frames...

RE: Platform Technique - Deus Ex Machina - 08-21-2008

Ah... I used frame 22... The first 'free' frame...
...Which means I'm doing something wrong...
To make the character stand on the box I have to inflate the bdy:h of the bandit platform frame to 1k instead of your 100, but then it just stands very high up D:

LAULI!
You posted faulty instructions :/
You have to summon the bdys at the centerpoint of the platform for this to work!

Words perfectly now -_-

I'm gonna get to work on picking it up, should be similar...
Wish me luck :D

Wow thanks, I wrote the tutorial from my mind and from what I've remembered and what was standing on the LF2 forums already...
