also for the radiation part you should've somehow mentioned the inversion of the earths magnetic field? and that our atmosphere should still block most radiation during the time where the magnetic field may collapse until it is inverted

However, this may or may not be a rumor, so I am inclined to believe neither.

I fully agree with this man, and a lot of stuff will be explained.
However, there'll be a lot of fuss about November this year. It'll be interesting.
As YinYin pointed out, war is the only real way the world would "end". The classical, cold-war-esque Mutually Assured Destruction can still wipe most of the Earth's population, albeit most likely not all of it. However, IF it would occur, I highly doubt it would be predicted by the Maya.

I remember that my Grade 8 History and Geography teacher believes that the world will end this year in December, but on 12 December.

Guys, it's just a game. Every couple of years a scientist come and say 'the world will end at the x time from now'. And people simply believes that. Here is a list dates predicted to be the end of the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dates_predicted_for_apocalyptic_events
I really don't think this is a thing to be predicted as we are everyday surviving huge incidences. Also I totally agree with YinYin and Bp.

Now humans are developing technology, which will get better overtime. Still if you think Earth will blow up on 21/12/2012 just wait for your answer. I'd say that if any disasters like volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, meteorites, aliens, supernova, black hole etc. is going to occur, 9/100 is my answer because everything wouldn't just happen at the same time. WAR. Yes, that is a big one. There are 192 countries in the world. War would be between 2 countries, other 190 are still safe. And also UN would stop the 2 from fighting. It is the beginning of May tomorrow, so we have 8 months for the big day. That much time is not enough for nature to destroy us all. Nature hurts itself but also heals itself. Just like if you get a nasty cut, in a few days you are as good as new.
So my final answer is NO.
