2 chars are more powerfull then one! So this is ok!
And btw, firzen IS overpowered!
If you have full MP and use D^A all the time you can kill the enemy with 1 strike! whirlwind+Explosion costs him some HP and much MP and DOES NOT kill with 1 strike! ! !

My opinion:
Firzen can use fire and ice -> if he uses a fire shield he wouldn't defend other balls because they would fly through the fire. And it has to be animated, because fire moves all the time instead of ice. So M and S had to change the defending frames.
