RE: Contest #2: Background Challenge - Silverthorn - 02-14-2009

Magnificence

Width: 3100px
Parallax Scrolling: Yes
Animation: No
Dynamic Effects: Yes (Light rays will appear randomly from the sky. When you touch them, you'll regain hp)
Download: -removed-, check a few posts below.

My second Background; I'm pretty happy with the outcome of this one. Sky was taken from one of my pictures (clicky), the rest was made from scratch. Actually, I wanted to add some animations to it, but somehow it just made the BG look ugly, so it's being released w/o flashing/moving/glowing/wiggling things. Enjoy :)

Screenshot: -removed-, check a few posts below

Any comment/criticism is appreciated.

RE: Contest #2: Background Challenge - Alectric - 02-15-2009

what is it with the sunsets already?
i am doing a sunset background already too
@bp, your background, bits of it seem out of place, it may be the trees, the trunks of them arent visible enough, and it all looks a bit flat
(sorry i think your background is cool, but these things need to be mentioned at somepoint)
@Someone else, nice idea with the fog. bit plain though..

RE: Contest #2: Background Challenge - Apocalipsis - 02-15-2009

In fact I think the layers giving the flat effect are the battleground layer, and the mountains... if they are divide in different layers with differents widths it will give sense of depth... I think. (The trees looks very good btw)

Edit: For the battleground layer I suggest a flat color with some little patterns with very low opacity in some places (look at Brokeback Cliff)...

RE: Contest #2: Background Challenge - Alectric - 02-15-2009

i may change my entry to this, not sure yet
http://www.lf-empire.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=2104
(i didnt want to release it here because i wanted it to be a separate release, at the moment anyway)

RE: Contest #2: Background Challenge - Apocalipsis - 02-15-2009

I hate when you need to decide wich entry you'll use in a contest... You always end thinking that the other one could have gathered more votes in the poll xD

Anyways my new bg is far better than my last one >=9 (I think)

Ps: I like your new bg over the old one, it has a better... design. Can't explain it...
