Pre New Year Resolutions - Azriel - 12-12-2015

As Christmas and New Year aren't that far away, I'd like to ask:

  1. Did you make any resolutions at the beginning of this year?
  2. Have you done what you said you were going to do?

This year I wanted to learn to [play the piano], and run a marathon in a [good time (ish)]. Another thing I wanted to do was progress Hero Quest into a playable state, but that didn't happen, even though I spent some hours on it.

Just thinking about next year, you can choose things that you wish to do, and actually do them, such as becoming a better spriter or artist, or being able to do 100 push ups at one go or something (I can do 30 :p)

Anyway, what have you all been up to this year?

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - A-Man - 12-12-2015

Hey, you made 2 of 3 goals you put for yourself happen! That's not bad at all. Congratulations!
As for myself, I really screwed up. I started a similar thread here on LFE in the beginning of last year.

Quote:-Become financially independent.
-Release the A-Engine.
-Produce at least 3 One Piece A-Edition versions.
-Dive deeper with low-level languages and develop a better understanding of computers' architecture.
-Get into web development and work on a couple of projects on that field.
-Learn a bit of graphics and animation.
Didn't become financially independent (although I managed to create a source which gets me very little). Didn't release the A-Engine (spent lots of time working on it). Didn't release any further releases in the game (mostly because it was dependent on the A-Engine). I think I did go a bit more low-level than what I knew before, but I didn't try writing anything with a language lower than C. I do think I understand computers a lot better now, so I would give that a tick mark. I got into web development fairly deeply, and even did a couple of projects in that field. As for graphics and animation, I'd say I only did like 50 hours of that which got me somewhere but nothing far.

There were a couple of unexpected turns of events last year which made me completely stop progressing on almost all of the above for 2-3 months (had no power for that entire time. Had lots of time to stare at blank walls and ... think. That period probably damaged some neurons). But, I did progress in things I didn't have in my list.
..
I don't know, I will do better next year!

Here is a preliminary list:
  • Become financially independent!!
  • Release the A-Engine.
  • Do a couple of OPAE releases.
  • Let the new Little Fighter fan project surface, and get something playable (with the help of others here).
  • Learn some musical instrument.
  • Practice Fencing.
  • Improve my German.
  • Start working with a friend on a new indie game project, 'Pandamonium'

On a side note, what does Blue Phoenix mean by what you quoted him saying in your signature?
Edit: found it!
Wasn't even searching for it XD It was completely coincidental and unintentional.

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - Rhino.Freak - 12-12-2015

Here were my resolution for this year
Quote:- Being more social. (Yes, I need to do this)
- Concentrating on 1 aspect of my skills and hone them. (like drawing/coding whatevs)
- Healthier lifestyle. ( I do this every year XD )
- Get better grades in college than this year!

I did not become more social, I did hone my coding and art skills however I didn't change my lifestyle and I doubt my grades will be going up this semester.
I feel sh****. This post was really needed, thanks.
I'll consider being more social and start hitting the gym again in 2016. *hope*

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - Memento - 12-12-2015

I didn't set myself any goals for last year :p

For 2016:
- get my thoughts stable again. Since I broke up with my ex, my thoughts have been with random girls for about 80-90% of the time and my friends started to give the girls I was dating numbers x]
- hopefully, get a stable relationship with the one girl I really like (but first I'll have to get my thoughts stable)
- Get all points in my minor;
- Get a parttime job
- Get to a 200kg Deadlift and 120kg Bench Press (fitness goals) in February and to 125kg Bench Press and 210-220kg Deadlift by the end of 2016

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - Azriel - 12-13-2015

@A-Man:
That's a lot of goals, it's not easy to maintain all of them and do them all well, but if you can keep up at least 3 hours per item per week, it's doable.
The green arrow is clickable to the post btw.

@Rhino.Freak:
Fitness is always one that pops up, but hard to remember to execute. Get into a routine, and don't break it. I used GymPact this year, where you have to pay money if you miss a workout / run. It's the "penalty if you don't" rather than "reward if you do" incentive.

@Memento (still XFX to me):
Gotta say, your fitness goals are way up there. As for relationships, work, and grades, I'm not sure about you but for me, juggling all 3 of those at once is pretty tough; I'd pick work and grades for now, just because grades will go away soon enough (you don't get many chances around that), whereas work and relationships still exist after grades have ended.

I haven't chosen my goals for next year, but likely would continue piano, and perhaps up my Chinese.

edit: eh cool, it links to the user name if it matches

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - Gespenst - 12-13-2015

What I completed.
-Almost finished part I of my comics.
-Improved my spriting skills.

Starting from the next year.
-Put myself together.
-Throw away some alcohol (I am not overusing it, I go to the college, not missing any lectures but sometimes I feel like I am doing too much with it compared of how I was not using it so much last two years)
- 80 pushups. I can do 40 pushups (50 but some aint the right ones.) Also I can do 30 diamond pushups but also not every of them are correct ones. And also do some other workout.
-Get the girl?
-Finaly start drawing pages for my comics.
-Drivers license?
-Get my left leg in shape so I could go play basketball(amature) again. Because in 1 year and 7 months(aprox) gap, I strained my knee two times.

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - MnM - 12-14-2015

This year:

No resolution

Upcoming year:

Still thinking of taking a resolution.

(probably become more proficient in portrait drawings in different medias and do a project regarding CCD)

I really wanted to comment on the piano part though @Azriel . Marvelous skill. Right hand and left hand should do different different movements. The only piano I was able to play was in the game Piano tiles yo :P .

And honestly, No I didn't do what I was trying to do :-/

RE: Pre New Year Resolutions - Marko - 12-23-2015

Generally:
- learn advanced psychology (first, i guess, i should learn how to spell psychology correctly without using google translate), advanced body language, clusters, attraction, rapport, basically everything that includes any interaction in social environment.
- master Lucid dreams so i could go lucid any night i want, learn more about power of brain and positive thoughts
- potentially find an inner piece via meditation or any other method, experiment a bit
- gain some more confidence, avoid grumpy environment and get rid of bad habits (mainly laziness), become more alpha male
- clear my thoughts on perception of life, start reading poetry
- learn advanced physics (mainly astrophysics, apstract things such as dimensions beyond ours, singularity, infinity...)
- get really comfortable with English. Expand my vocabulary (perhapse via watching many movies without translation underneath) and learn to read and speak fluidly.
- work my a** off on a training ground (football), develop weaker foot, improve heading(..)
- achieve any goal i think of meanwhile this journey,.. be determined, passionated.
- introduce schedules into my daily life.
- take care of food i eat, eat healthy and gain physical condition, as good as it possibly could, for football
- to be the best in everything i do, not to satisfy with an average results or fairly above that, be ambitious, be the best in everything.

for 2016 itself:
- finish 4th grade with an A.
- graduate with an excellent grades, sign in to good college, possibly fee free...
- leave everything alone and read those books i have to once for all

@empirefantasy, i am studying it in free time. Well, it's not something super advanced, but they are not basics either and not psychology in overal, but small part that includes interaction with individual human or group of people...
