Hitler's Secret (hosting?) - LutiChris - 04-02-2016

Is anyone interested in hosting this game?

edit) sorry i couldn't give a brief overview of the game, i'm busy at work

RE: Hitler's Secret (hosting?) - STM1993 - 04-03-2016

I had a look at the rules.pdf in the site. Most of the game should be translatable to forum format (the election phases ballot card would either need to be really slow with PMs or have to compromise with having votes be public like day phase lynches). Legislative phase would be quite slow if the president and chancellor are both from different timezones.

There is one notable problem though. This game requires that everyone post in the thread itself, no PMs - an unenforceable rule.
* Hitler does not know who his fellow fascists are, but the fascists all know Hitler.
That means you can also pretty much circumvent this rule by simply having all fascists PM Hitler, and Hitler would then know who to trust and whose policies to implement.

edit:
Summary of Secret Hitler:
  1. Liberal(Townie) vs Fascists(Mafia)
    • Liberals win if 5 liberal policies are enacted or Hitler is killed.
    • Fascists win if 6 fascists policies are enacted or Hitler is elected chancellor after 3 fascists policies have already been implemented.
  2. Fascists know each other and Hitler, Hitler does not know his fellow fascists.
  3. No private discussion allowed.
  4. The game may go through up to 3 phases: Election, Legislation, Executive Action.

  5. Election Phase:
    • For the first election, a player is randomly chosen as Presidential candidate.
    • For subsequent elections, the player next to the previous president(not counting Specially-elected Presidents) in the player list will be the Presidential candidate.
    • Presidential candidate picks one other player to be the Chancellor candidate.
    • Once both candidates are chosen, EVERYONE is to vote whether they accept the candidates as president & chancellor with a 'yes'(ja) or 'no'(nein).
    • Candidates will win if 50% or more of the votes voted 'yes'. If 3 or more fascists policies have been implemented & the chancellor is Hitler, Fascists will win the game.
    • If the vote is a tie or the majority votes against the candidates, the next player in the player list becomes the new Presidential candidate.
    • If 3 sets of candidates are rejected in a row, "reveal the policy on top of the Policy Draw Deck" and enact it. Any power granted by this policy is ignored, but all players become eligible to hold the office of Chancellor for the next election".

  6. Legislative Phase:
    • Public discussion during this phase is prohibited.
    • The President draws the top 3 Policy cards and picks 2. The Chancellor then picks 1 out of the remaining 2.
    • If 5 fascist policies have been implemented, the Chancellor can veto. If the President consents, the game skips to Election phase, otherwise the Chancellor must pick as usual.
    • Discarded policies are NOT revealed. You'll have to take the elected government's word for it.
    • If there are less than 3 policy cards remaining in the deck, shuffle them with the discarded cards to create a new policy deck.
    • If a policy that grants no presidential power is chosen, the game skips to Election phase (no Executive phase).

  7. Executive Phase:
    • This phase would happen if a Fascist policy is chosen that would give the President a new power.
    • The President MUST use a power granted to him. He may discuss with other players, but the ultimate decision falls on him.
    • Available powers are: Check Alignment, Choose next Presidential candidate(after a special election, Presidency returns to its original order), Peek at the next 3 policy cards, or Execute a player.
    • Executed players can no longer participate in the game. Their exact role/alignment are NOT revealed (unless its Hitler, in which the game ends in Liberal victory).

It'd be great if the theme can be changed to something more intuitive and interesting. I'm also not familiar with the jargon used here (and I bet most aren't, too).

RE: Hitler's Secret (hosting?) - TheNave - 04-03-2016

I'm sorry, I'm usually all up for any kind of mafia game no matter how absurd the setup is... but as a German I'll pass on this one...
killing nazi zombies in a game is fine, but playing a game that might force you to try to win from hitlers point of view really goes against my national pride, sorry guys

I tried but I did not ubderstand it. :/

Even with a theme change, like King & Mayor + Godfather & Mafia?

At its core, its really just a Kingmaker game with a theme that power corrupts:
* Mayor(Kingmaker) picks a new King everyday.
* King lynches someone each day, hoping to kill Mafia.
* If Mayor dies, a new Mayor is chosen.

The main differences are:
* Mafia cannot kill people at night.
* The Mayor & King are chosen together by players.
* King chooses what the Mayor must do - do nothing or use his power(lynch, check if someone is Mafia etc). The mayor only chooses whom to use the power on.
* Townies win if Mayor kills the Godfather or 5 Mayors do nothing.
* Mafia win if 6 Mayors used their power, or Godfather becomes King after 3 Mayors used their power.

(No, I'm not keen on hosting, but I do believe everyone should be properly informed of what this game is compared to regular Mafia.)

RE: Hitler's Secret (hosting?) - SirFrog - 04-04-2016

I've played the game several times, both on Tabletop Simulator and in real life, and I can say the game is a blast. However, since it's a game where every single thing counts, from the pause in choosing a policy to the way you promote certain people, it's best played in a faster environment than a forum. It's just not made for the format. It's also one of those games where you have to remember it's just a game. Much like Diplomacy, or more recently, Munchkin, some people will get upset as their friends and family backstab them to win. So unless you can handle being fooled by fascists into shooting a fellow liberal and then losing the majority vote, it's not a game for you unfortunately.

The game could also, obviously, be refluffed as you see fit. Throw a cylon in there and it's BSG-themed. You could make them wizards with a bunch of necromancers and a lich in there as well for a fantasy flavour. There's many ways to play the game without the titular dictator, although I personally kind of like it for being so absurd.

For those who wish to see how it plays on Tabletop Simulator, the Co-optional people on YouTube has made it a semi-regular thing. Click the links to watch the >first<, >second< and >third< video. There are several more if you like them.

Quote:im ok to try this new one. maybe we caould use IRC to play?
That's not viable at all given the difference in everyone's timezones.

RE: Hitler's Secret (hosting?) - TheNave - 04-05-2016

@stm I'm fine if the theme gets changed but as sirfrog said it might be better as a real-time game

@empirefantasy you just lost any kind of sympathy I had for you and have be added to my ignore list
