LF2 Timelapse
1st post (START HERE)
What is it?- The ultimately LF2 mod, open source and using existing and custom LF2 content
- As we're in 2020 now, there's only a handful of people that actually still know LF2 exists. Since the end of times MIGHT BE coming (I'm talking about the end of LF2, which has been announced for decades), it's time we team up not as an actual project team, but simply AS THE LF2 COMMUNITY. As so, everybody is free to submit their projects.
- Whether or not a submitted project will be approved for the version will depend on the decision of a group of people from the community (atm this is me and Sauce)
- In LF2 Timelapse, you travel through time to save your friends and even the end of times! (stage mode)
- All the original characters and custom characters play together in synchronizity, all with balanced data and AI. It's much easier to modify some of this stuff nowadays

- As for the custom characters: these will be characters that have been made in the past 20-25 years (representative characters, Frozen, etc). Only those of high quality are allowed in and adjustments can be made to these characters to make the character fit their role better for the mod, to make them more versitile as a character or simply to improve overall quality. Many charachters made for mods are also very interesting and I believe we should USE EXISTING SPRITES AND DATA OF CHARACTERS AND MOVES (also from mods) SELECTIVELY. Selectively meaning: first we think of the moveset, second we decide on the resource) If you have created content and you do not want it to go into LF2 Timelapse, please post a message in this topic. We will make sure the content will be removed!
- No copy/paste characters or recolors, only custom characters
- As for the storyline (stage): I was thinking of having 'the resurrection of Marshall' as a catastrophic event... It's pretty cool to have the version represent members of the community, right! ^_^
- Music is very powerful, and personally I find the LF2 music overwhelming. I always shut it down, just to put on music that I find fitting... Do you see where I'm going? I believe we need to replace the soundtracks with something that sphearical (not sure about credits, but I could look that up).
About legal use
Some sprites and scripts will be new, but for this mod we want to use existing materials for the most part. The reason for this is simple: creating a lot of new stuff, especially of high quality, has proven to fail more often than not with LF2 projects... So logically, we want to give credits for whoever helped, directly or maybe even 10 years ago. But: not everybody will still be around, credits will be missing, sprites and data have been copied and edited several times etc. Therefor we want to give credits where we can, but we will not always be able to. If you know more about the credits, please inform us.
So anyway, what needs to happen at this moment?- We need to get insight into credits from the start. At the moment we're hoping somebody could tell us the author of the Freeze ice punch sprites we used.
- Make a list of things that have been created in the past 20 years that can be used to make a (maybe) even better version of the original game. I'm talking about everything from sprites to programming that is custom made and could be a positive addition to the original game.
- Have a poll about what characters should really be in this mod (taking into consideration: %completed, quality, LF2-styled, originality)
- What custom moves (on original LF2 / copy/paste / recolorred characters) made by other people in the past did you love / do you think deserve to be seen again in the mod of 2 decennia?
- Hear some thoughts on the subject from you guys
Decision making group
Do you have experience, passion and skills in LF2 (battling/editing), with a desire to release a version of the game that could have been An update by Marti & Starsky themselves? And do you want to help on deciding what will go into the mod?

In case for whatever reason like i mysteriously disappear this is my old website i no longer update but there's plenty of old sprite animations that can be used (the original large files got erased from a bad usb drive)

Excelent idea.
Finally! LF2 really deserves an update with all the rich contribution from members.
But the biggest obstacle with big scale fan-projects is time.
First of all, I need to point out that: although I am still a recent member on the forum, I have been following LF2 Empire for 5 years and LF2 as a whole since version v1.9.
An open debate about improvements to the game by itself already pleases me so much.
Because I am currently producing a "DOTA" version of LF2 (1 year ago). The most difficult part was not understanding AngelScript or Hex, but decide what exactly to implement so the game ends up refined, competitive, fun and still in LF2 style. Trying to think everything myself gives me a headache. Its not that easy as we imagine...
My sugestion:
Currently, all games (even the simplest ones) implement some type of system with gradual gameplay evolution in order to avoid a linear experience for players. LF2 would offer a much better gameplay satisfaction and challenge with a level system.

If you need any Data changer and test, find me.
Or maybe I can add my AIs and characters in there.

If you would be interested in analyzing the original LF2 data and AI + make good changes to them, that would be amazing. In the end, it's still all about the original game in this mod ^_^ The AI especially needs a rework.
For the AIs that could go in the mod however, you can't think of the avarage player as being able to beat your training AI So unfortunately, it would have to be a little bit less strong. There's hardly no escaping some of these AIs at all ^^

ehh I'don't know how to weaken these AIs,whether it's mine or theirs. So it can't put in the mod and I can't make sprites(but I can use PhotoShop),just data.
I think we can change a little original characters and add extra characters with copyed AI.
btw I want some recording with lf2-AIStrengthen,do you have them? It's okay with any mode.
RE: LF2 Timelapse (open source) - Memento - 07-24-2020
Weakening them can probably be done by setting some values a little less tight, if you know what I mean.. I.e.: Dennis will keep using run+dash attack faster than any human could, but he will keep using it forever if the player would be an indestructable object. This is probably due to values in the AI somewhere that states that the character should position themselves and when in a certain position, to use run+dash.

RE: LF2 Timelapse (open source) - Memento - 07-24-2020
Highlighted character: Woody
Woody has always been one of the stronger original LF2 characters, which is mostly due to his quick close combat skills.
In the past 2 days I've been working on an update for Woody. I'd like some opinions: is it good enough to add to LF2 Timelapse (imagine this would be a release by Marti&Starsky)
(download in post #1 in the thread, but please use the woody.dat from post #3)
RE: LF2 Timelapse (open source) - The_Hari - 07-24-2020
In terms of whole mod idea I'd say go for editing only original characters. I think all of the "quality" characters are already balanced and don't need changes for sake of change. Anyone can download whichever chars they like and put into mod of their choice.
With all of the great spriters around here, you can really come up with interesting, not seen before moves for Davis and co. There wasn't really any mod made on lfe in years, while chinese side of community made quite a few. Not to mention less work means it has way better chance to be finished.
And if people still will be interested, you can always redone basic moves, come up with stage edits, or modify minion characters
