alright, here's what i did:
1) modified exe for my mod
2) goes and play
3) selected random bg
4) stanley prison
5) before game starts,
this happens (Click to View)
and i was Shock. since when was there a bg/sys/sp/4.bmp image? so i go and check the bg data and...(same as a normal stanley prison). so i go and make a image called 4 in bg/sys/sp and...

again. anyone know the problem? i tried with unmodified exe= same prob.
edit: some other bgs have problems now... even redownloaded the bg folder... :(

somehow I guess your modified exe is the reason - if you have this problem again, why don`t you try a normal unmodified exe - if it starts without problems then you know the reason ;)
