Forum RPG: Journey Through Death - Eddie - 07-01-2010

Introduction

RPG Adventure seems to be a very popular game by Ramond. However I realise that there are very limited numbers of people that could take part in it due to time restrictions and such. It would have simply taken too long for everyone to reply. So I have decided to introduce another turn based RPG to the forum, for those of you that missed out.

'RPG: Journey Through Death' is going to be along the same lines of RPG Adventure on the basis that it is turn based and that you will need stat points and skill points. It will be different however in how it is run and what the stats and skills will be. So this may take some time for you to get used to.

Anyone can join, although I will take some priority for those that I know aren't currently in RPG Adventure. This is so that everyone can get an equal chance to play in a forum RPG. And to include more people, I will more than likely introduce a special system - to be explained later on.

Stats Points and Categories
Although stats points still exist, I have made them and their categories different to that of RPG Adventure. This is to, in my eyes, simplify it as much as possible. They are as follows:

Mental:
[INT] Intelligence - This determines the characters ability to learn new spells and new skills. It is important for things like disarming traps as well.

[SPI] Spirituality - This allows the character to learn new spells and also affects the characters spell casting, including the damage dealt and the general effect of the spell.

[WIL] Will - This is used to determine the characters defence against magical attacks and spells.

[PRE] Presence - This affects how others may percieve you, such as indifferent, afraid or hostile.

Physical:
[STR] Strength - This affects the amount of physical damage you may do to an opponent. It also affects how heavy armour you can wear and how much you can carry.

[AGI] Agility - This affects the movement speed of your character and how fast it can attack. The higher the agility, the sooner you can attack.

[DEX] Dexterity - This affects your ability to use weapons effectively and is important for things like disarming traps and lock picking.

[FOR] Fortitude - This affects how high your physical defence is.

Stat Point Allocations -
At the start each skill will have 9 stats points already allocated within them as a base. However, depending on the classes and race that you are, you will get more points allocated to certain stats categories or maybe even some taken away.

Races
There are varying different races that you may be within 'RPG: Journey Through Death'. These races have specific traits and stats that may give them an advantage in certain situations or as certain classes. So here are the races:

Human - most all round race in the game. Has no specific stats boosts or flaws.
Trait:
Natural Leader - the human is often a natural born leader. This will cause monsters to attack the human more often.

Elf - Long eared humanoid with relatively more magical ability.
Trait:
Fast Learner - the elf is able to learn effectively at an accelerated rate. This means it gains more experience as it goes through life.
Stats:
+ 2 INT, +1 AGI, -1 STR, - 2 FOR

Dwarf - Stout companion who prefers melee and physical ability over magic. Its short legs hinder its movement somewhat however.
Trait:
Battle Cry -
After an attack the Dwarfs fearsome battle cry may scare off or even stun an enemy.
Stats -
+2 STR, +3 FOR, -3 AGI, -1 WIL, -1 SPI

Ratosh - Humanoids with the appearance of a rat. Well known for their deception and trickery.
Trait:
Scurry - Ratosh have an uncanny ability to disappear when there is trouble brewing. Scurry allows them to escape battles more easily.
Stats:
+2 INT, +2 DEX, +1 AGI, -3 STR, -2 SPI

Drakins - Drakins are humanoids with the appearance of a lizard. Their scaley skin and tail allow them to be recognised instantly.
Trait:
Toxin Immunity - Drakins as lizards and members of the reptile family have come across many poisons and toxins. Therefore they are no longer susceptible to poison.
Stats:
+2 AGI, +1 STR, -1 INT, -2 FOR

Tigris - Tigris are humanoids with cat like features. They vary in nature from more lion like to tiger like to panther like. They happen to be spiritual creatures and strong fighters.
Trait:
All Fours - Cats have an ability to land on all fours. The same shows through with Tigris. It allows them to not be knocked over in combat and so suffer no turn penalty.
Stats:
+1 AGI, +1 STR, +2 SPI, -1 FOR, -2 PRE, -1 DEX

Elephantis - Elephantis are large humanoid beings with appearances similar to that of elephants. Because of their naturally large size, it can limit the armour that they are allowed to wear. They are strong and very magical creatures.
Trait:
Mana Mastery - Elephantis have an exceptional ability in terms of Mana. They have a larger mana pool so that they can cast more spells and have reduced mana cost of spells. They also have an exceptional mana recovery.
Stats:
+1 STR, +3 INT, +4 SPI, +2 WIL, -5 AGI, -2 PRE, -3 DEX

Those are the base races from which you can choose from at the moment. I may include more races as the game continues for newer people to arrive.

Gender -
Gender has an important part to play in terms of stats points. Men tend to favour a bit more brute force than women, although they seem to lack the grace and personality that the women have. So here are the stats points modifications for gender:

Men - +1 STR, +1 FOR
Women - +1 AGI, +1 PRE

Classes -
The moment you've all been waiting for... Classes. Unlike in RPG Adventure, it is not limited to one person per class, however, you are limited in the Classes that you may choose from at the beginning, but this is for added gameplay bonus as I am introducing a Class Ascension System. This means that as the game progresses the characters may be able to change Classes and learn new skills and abilities. The CAS will be explained in more detail later. Here are the classes that you can be from the start:

Warrior - A hardy and sturdy fighter. They excel in armed combat and are normally the first to rush into a fight. They work best through physical damage.
Stats:
+1 STR, +2 FOR, -1 INT, -2 SPI

Archer - A long distance ranged expert. These guys load their bows and crossbows with arrows and bolts, sending projectiles flying into their opponents.
Stats:
+2 AGI, +1 FOR, -1 STR, -1 SPI, -1 INT

Wizards - Wizards are the main magic users and spell casters of the group. They specialise mainly in offensive magic but have been known to buff and heal in some groups.
Stats:
+3 INT, +2 SPI, -3 FOR, -2 STR

Priests - Holy men of the cloth. They specialise in healing and curing of diseases. Although it is not unknown for them to use nature against their opponents when it comes to combat.
Stats:
+2 INT, +2 SPI, +1 WIL, -2 AGI, -1 FOR, -2 DEX

Rogue - The rogue is the thief in our group. They are specialised in opening locks and breaking through traps unharmed. They are also exceptionally better at pickpocketing than any other starting Class.
Stats:
+2 INT, +2 DEX, +1 AGI, -2 FOR, -3 PRE

Stats Ending -
Now that you have picked your race, class and gender you have most of your stats points bestowed upon you. As an added bonus you are rewarded 8 Stats points to spend as you wish on the Stat Categories. After this has been done, your character will be complete and ready to use.

Class Ascension System -
The Class Ascension System is a system devised to allow maximum enjoyability of gameplay and also the ability to fully customise your character. It also gives you the ability to access different guilds and to train in various different skills that were previously unaccessible to your character.

To ascend or reach a different Class, you must perform a Class Quest for your guild. This Class Quest will be the same for every character who wishes to take up the new role. However, you may only take up that Class or Class Quest if it is offered to you by your guild. You can not for example take up the Class Quest for Paladin if you are in Wizards Guild or Rogues guild and not within Priest Guild or Warrior Guild.

Ascended classes often are linked to more than one type of guild as in the example above, Paladins. This allows the character to take quests from either guild and ascend in Class from either of them.

After you have become a member of one guild, you will not lose your membership to that guild if you convert or ascend to any other Class. The guilds are loyal to their customers and those whom have done quests for them. Even if your new Class is not one of the features of the guilds you were in, you still remain a member of those guilds and therefore can take Class Quests from them as well.

Signing Up -
Anyone is allowed to sign up to RPG: Journey Through Death. This includes those that are currently in RPG Adventure. I say this because it is different to the way that RPG Adventure is played and I will be releasing lots of new features as we go along. Hopefully this knowledge will tickle your fancy and entice you into joining.

Now, I have decided to give a 3-4 day period for sign ups before the game starts being played. This does not restrict others from signing up during the time the game is played, as they will be brought into the game as quickly as possible under a system I am currently developing. There is no limit to how many people can sign up, so sign away everybody.

To sign up fill in this basic form and post a reply to this thread:

Character Name: (Be inventive - whatever you like)
Race: (Post a race from above)
Race Modifier: (Post the stats bonuses and flaws that the Race has)
Trait: (The trait your race has)
Gender: (characters gender)
Gender Modifier: (Stats bonuses for each gender)
Class: (Your characters Class from the starting options)
Class Modifier: (Stats bonuses and flaws that your Class has)
Stats: (Total Stats the character has after looking through the guide above)
Appearance: (Let people imagine your character better, give them something to think about when they play the game with you)

Example:

Name: Antarusin
Race: Tigris
Race Modifier: +1 AGI, +1 STR, +2 SPI, -1 FOR, -2 PRE, -1 DEX
Trait: All fours
Gender: Male/Man
Gender Modifier: +1 STR, +1 FOR
Class: Warrior
Class Modifier: +1 STR, +2 FOR, -1 INT, -2 SPI
Stats:
INT - 10
SPI - 9
WIL - 9
PRE - 7
STR - 15
AGI - 10
DEX - 8
FOR - 15
Appearance:
Antarusin is a tiger like Tigris. He is broadly built with a muscular stature and a fair amount of height. He has bright yellow eyes and a scar running down his right cheek.

I used the stats rules as posted above to do this example:
- Start off with 9 in everything
- Add/Subtract Race stats modifiers
- Add Gender stats modifiers
- Add/Subtract Class stats modifiers
- Spend 8 free stats points however you wish to choose

You will have no more and no less than 83 stats points at the start of your character. If you do, you have done something wrong and you have to redo it and make sure you made no mistakes.

I will write up the story when I feel we have an adequate number of people taking part in RPG: Journey Through Death.

Enjoy guys!

Eddie

Admittedly, faking would be impossible - I just realised how bad the whole username thing is.

You don't need to add username anymore guys - I can see it well enough from the post writer.

And yes, a sprite is just as good as a written description. :D

RE: Forum RPG: Journey Through Death - Eddie - 07-05-2010

Good stuff guys, a few more people could join hopefully..

if not, I'll start off with just you two and get people to join at later stages. Small parties = faster gameplay and A LOT more experience.

A rogue and an archer, tough mix.

So one more day and I will get you started.

As for ForgetLatios:

You're also missing 3 stats points. You only have 80 out of 83. So spend another 3 as you wish. :D
