Mainsite DC-Types - Jed37 - 08-11-2010 One thing that's always bothered me, even before I ever made an account on the forums, was the list of the six types of data-changing on the mainsite. Specifically, This Page. It seems a little inconvenient, having one page list them only as numbers, and to find out which type is which, you must go to another page, or click the links. It seems to me that the DC section would be easier to navigate through if the numbered links were replaced with the actual titles of the pages. RE: Mainsite DC-Types - oliveryungo - 08-11-2010 Oh, the Advanced Data Changing section? Well, that does looks a bit messy. But how are they sorted, anyway? RE: Mainsite DC-Types - Jed37 - 08-11-2010 That's the thing: You have to go to the Types section to find out what each one is. RE: Mainsite DC-Types - oliveryungo - 08-11-2010 So they're all disconnected articles? And why not just put them all in one section? Some of them only have one article, anyway. RE: Mainsite DC-Types - Jed37 - 08-11-2010 That's a good solution, although keeping them separate makes some of them easier to find. I was merely suggesting that, to make things easier, the labels in the Advanced Data Changing section would include the names, like they do in the Types section. RE: Mainsite DC-Types - oliveryungo - 08-11-2010 Yes, but keeping them seperate- 4 of them only have on article. Merging all the normal advanced dc into one section would only increase article numbers by....(where's my calculator?)..13, making a total of...(the calculator has to crash now, doesn't it?)..38 articles. And stage+ background dcing would be kept seperate. Solution 2- Organize the articles in a way that's easier to understand, similar to Jed37's suggestion. I don't know any DC so I have no clue to how articles in a section relate to each other, so maybe in terms of similar techniques? RE: Mainsite DC-Types - The Lost Global Mod - 08-11-2010 hm.. definitely something to think about, I was thinking about that too actually but as I am literally teh dc noob within the staff, I was a bit scared to point it out. Can you give us some time to think about it? As in don't post until bp/mh/or eventually me posts (again)? Lately we have gotten a lot of changes at lfe mainsite and they seem to get more and more. So if this topic gets spammed it might get to a overreaction of mh (who has been working alot on lfe) or bp (who just recently came back from vacations). I hope you understand that. The least i can do is make sure that our admins don't end up in the brain plumbers personal room. Thanks in advance. RE: Mainsite DC-Types - MH-Razen - 08-11-2010 nah phil it`s fine, thats a new suggestio9n, the bot-thing is.... a neverending story. And actually this isnt supposed to look like this i would start working - if BP wouldnt to it already ![]() RE: Mainsite DC-Types - Silverthorn - 08-11-2010 I felt so free to add a little info behind each type in the hope of making it a little less confusing. Regarding your suggestion to merge the different categories: yes, this would be possible (and, @Phil, I'm too motivated to categorically decline every suggestion currently). However, I personally find it more useful to have it all split up to make it a little easier to find. Techniques that deal with t0-objects are all collected in the respective category, t1 in t1, and so on. As mentioned, it's making it a tad easier to find things. So, long post for one single key element. Hope it's better now ![]() RE: Mainsite DC-Types - oliveryungo - 08-11-2010 But what if the people searching for techniques don't know what to look for? It would be a pain in the neck. |
