The amount of your stars depends on your post count. You can find a list here:

However, please note that those stars don't change anything with your rank or your privileges on LFE, it is just for visual purposes and should not encourage you to increase your amount of posts by any cost (to prevent spamming). Except if you post actual helpful content.
If you didn't mean the stars below your name, you probably mean those big golden, silver or bronze ones in some users' profiles. Those are earned by reaching one of the first 3 places in official LFE contests (take a look at the current one, a background contest, which ends today).
