Anyone who has not tried their hands on Photoshop yet because of legal or money issues should give the old Creative Suite 2 a shot.
They have taken down their registration servers and put up a master key for it basically allowing anyone to download and install it for free.
They may advise you to not use this 'old' software, but I myself am still using it to this day and it's features are far more than enough for anything.
