This has happened in the past to me too, I don't really remember doing anything and even now I'm using Chrome. You could try messing around with the settings and maybe try downloading and installing Chrome again.
EDIT: The Google forums also say you should check your extensions as some of them might block common websites.

Might be some bad ads on the mainsite. For those that use an ad blocker, it's the dark box at the top of content and another box on the left hand side.
Which is quite funny, considering that those ads are delivered by AdSense, a vital Google-branch
It'll probably sort itself soon-ish. At least I hope so.
