Try commenting out (add a // in front of the line) the d3d_draw_ellipsoid function in the draw event and see if it works.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.

volatile in C++ does not mean thread-safe.
Do not make APIs unnecessarily asynchronous.
