i really love the new light and dark sprite of yours but like reaper said i think bp's is better.
and for the new sprites man they are really good
but its some sprites it seems that the legs are smaller then the body, or the hand (not arm) but hand is smaller than the arm.
other than that really great job

Considering that I rarely go out of LF2 standart height, it's a giant.
Wonder how long it took you. Especially because that's a more unnatural size for you (at least I got the impression of it) :P
Hmm, I must have forgotten to comment your latest ones. I demand you to receive my thoughts -- immediately! ;p
Well yeah, since editing does not bump, it'd be probably better for us all to either post a new reply with something like "update" or even add the sprites in there as well. But that aside....
Interesting take on Evo Julian. A bit uncommon view on him (and the lighter colored hair is even making it more unusual). Reminds me a bit of a fusion between Davis and Julian, tbh.
Nice to see that even people like you are still improving. I can remember, when you posted the older sprites, we were all like: "awesome!"
I wonder how this will turn out now. The new ones are heaps better than their predecessors! Great work, keep it up!

love your new stuff.. though, they're abit too tiny.
Evo julian's just about the right size. Now, if you made all the other characters in evo julian's size... yea. now that'd be awesome.
I'd love to work on a mod with you in that style. (Alert alert, incoming R.E.A.L.I.S.Ts, weapons hot and ready to shoot my ridiculous ideas down.)
Or at least, a small collaborative project? a pair of characters. Apoc & Sieg, we need to work on our representative characters. lol. I don't have one, and as far as I know, you don't really have one either. lol.

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

hmmm... well ive been comparing your new sprites with the old ones all afternoon. and i can see that you made a x10 improvement there apoc. i mean yea some sprites are kinda thin but still... shading technique has advanced (especially hair shading) and after seeing these new sprites i will i definitely have a reason to do some spriting practice now... so you can say ill be posting a lot in the next weeks.
keep up the awesome work there apoc!

Since Julian's skin, clothes and even color palette seem to be affected by the mask (that's how I see it anyways), I had a lot of freedom at the redesign moment. What is left of the original Julian is just the basic hair shape and height (not exactly the same size though).

I have the same problems with others characters... I was so used to see the older versions, so the new ones looked flawed to me. But I was/am determinated to have every (decent) sprite that I have done in the same style, and before the massive resprite I had a mix of recent and old styles. Now I can put every char next to each other without worrying about height and proportions problems.
But I encourage you to tell me what design changes I should make to any char, I don't lose anything trying and the resulting sprite can be better than the current one.

I'm afraid I'm specifically aiming to maintain lf2 standart height for every sprite... or atleast very close to it. Evo Julian is not an exception, it's just that he is tall like that :p
Also, I can't help but think that spriting in bigger size just makes spriting easier (matter of opinion)... For example in those contest we are having, there are some really outstanding looking sprite at first glance, but those may not get my vote because they don't follow LF2 standart height at all. In the other hand something that fits perfectly aside Woody without notable differences will probably get my vote (if it's of decent quality, obviously).
Imo, it's harder to put everything you want in a smaller sprite, so I have that in mind everytime I look at sprites.
(Probably a lot of you disagree, but this is how I think :p)

I still have to resprite Lucas (rep char). I'm eager to see what 'Siegvar' looks like :p
@Thin sprites comments
My style could be described as this (comparing with LF2 style):
*Determinated shading shapes
*Mostly three colors shading (two in some cases)
*Low contrast palette (comparing my old sprites with new ones)
*Standart height
*Standart size head
*Large arms
*Female sprites are smaller
*Thin waist (aka. a bit smaller than Woody's waist)
*Small feet (however as the height is the same, this produces the next characteristic)
*Large legs (height, not width)
I think those three last characteristcs makes the chars look thin, specially when compared to Davis or such characters, with freaking big legs/feet.
Thanks for the comments & feedback, btw.

I agree on the "smaller is more challenging" bit. Though larger sprites will have their own challenges. (More space means more room to do things, meaning you ought to make most use of that extra space to do something you could never do with the smaller sprite, with that in mind I don't mind things getting bigger as long as its not just a bigger version of the old sprites, but that spriters make use of that space to achieve effects that could never be done in smaller sprites.)
But right now I'm less focused on making the damned things more challenging and more on making the things more interesting.
With all the years I've spent spriting lf2 characters now, I feel that I'm reaching the saturation point. (Where its becoming ridiculously tiring to try and cram in more details, and all I'm effectively left with is rehashes of various design ideas. That and that simple details take unnecessary amounts of time and effort because of their size.)
However, when we change the proportions, alot more options open up, and I've been toying around with various proportional configurations to find the best fit for making more interesting sprites. (Of course, balancing ease of creation with the potential for variety.)
And what i see in your EvoJulian is possibly one of the more appropriate size and style to achieve the ends I mentioned above. With the smaller sprites, I realise it'll be one freaking hell of a pain in the arse to do designs that focus on small details, like lets say a fighter whose fingers are the focus, without blowing his hands up till they're monstrosities in size.
Oh well.. I think I'll try imitating this style of yours and see where that leads me. haha.

Also his hands are somehow wierd, i don´t know how, maybe the positions? And those swords look now much sharper than they were in older sprite, i think that those not-so-sharp swords were somehow new and cool and etc. but now the sharper ones just look like Deep´s sword :/
E. Oh, and in older one there´s much deeper shading :/ i think it makes it look more smooth so i like the old one better.
