Please note that this isn't the final look.

I'm not really sure what 16 bit is. I AM going to participate anyway .
I am really not clear about 16 bit. Someone explain it to me? T.T
I only figured out they are all pixelated, which means they have small resolution, but how small? :P .
This is a list of my questions:
1. What is 16 bit?
2. Is DOS text-based game allowed/considered as 16 bit? LOL really don't know what 16 bit means]
3. Are we allowed to use MOUSE?
thanks for answering my stupid questions around 16 bit ~~~

8 or 16bit in this case refers to the colour range the computer monitors of that time were capable of displaying I think.
16bit isn't too bad, 8bit will be more interesting.
Anyway, I'm considering participating, but I have no idea whether I'll be able to get an entry out... got alot of things on my plate already.
EDIT:
Oh, and I need some clarification.
This is a programming forum.... but this contest does not state any rules on to the means of creating the game.
And I've seen some people mention using GM8.0.
So, I suppose it'll also be fine if I stick with Flash and Actionscript? that's pretty much the only thing I know how to use.

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

hmmm alrighty I need only to change some sprites of mine. I'm doing pretty well with my BloxMagic now xD .
Anyway: It's not 16 bit at all~ but it does looks like. i've made pixelated & basic colored sprites, just some of them aren't. i'm very close to finishing my project just now
uhhh I does think it's pretty too difficult to people who don't used to play Tetris though.... It should be really enjoyable for tetris players though
EDIT:
Here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/?9aci3l24i1e908j
. Actually I made this for a Tetris Forum (that's why it's so difficult for non-Tetris-players). I have changed things to look 16-bit-ish, reduce the difficulty and speed, and changed some parts of the game to fit it for this contest. I will make another entry if I am allowed to!! Just wait for my next game xD .
ehh btw if the controls don't work, you must click the field. it should work though.
To set keys press Enter. Do not assign Enter to any key because you will then be asked to input the keys again whenever you press Enter.
In case you are lazy to read, just watch this and you'll understand the magic modifiers. In any case it's worth to watch this. It shows you how to play pretty well.. if you're no tetris player then this is pretty great. If you are you perhaps can do better.

Anyway it's a very fun retro game . If you masters Tetris this game is a great variation!

it gave me an error x_x
btw, i noted you can either make a retro looking game OR a remix of a retro game. so new graphics on a tetris remix are fine ;D
@siegvar: sure, anything is possible as long as the result is a playable game. even html is allowed :DD
