New Usergroup
#1
?
After some thinking and discussing with MH, we've come to the conclusion that it is time for another usergroup: the support team. These members have to be experienced in their area (whether it is DCing, spriting, or fighting) and already pretty well known in here (which is kinda basic, I know).

Now, since a new usergroup also needs certain privileges, I want to ask you - yes, YOU - what you can imagine a support team to be doing. I've had already quite a few ideas about their functions, but, in order not to influence anybody around here, I'd like you to give some suggestions.

Please remember that the main function of this usergroup is to help others, anything else than that is optional. Do not advertise yourself or anybody else in this thread, this discussion here is primary to set the group properties. And now.... post you ideas on what the support team is supposed to do in your eyes! :D

Except helping, they could help the admins and mods to remove spam and such stuff on their own area. Just to give you admins and mods more time for the website instead of dispoasal spam... That would be pretty good I think :D

Define "support". Because every member is a supporter of the forums, one way or another. The webmaster/admins run the forums, moderators keep watch over the community to enforce the rules, the members post to keep the community alive, the DCers create new data and experiment possibilities to allow for more possible modifications to LF2 to keep the game alive, the spriters create excellent graphics to be used by created or existing characters also to keep the game alive. We also have special groups of people like the "Advanced DCers" which is actually a specialist group. Actually, we basically have all the possible groups already.

If it is watching over the forums, we have moderators AND admins.
If it is coding, we have the admins.
If it is DCing, we have the Advanced DCers.
If it is a senior member, we have VIP members.

Sorry, but I do not have enough information to make a good suggestion to what a support team may be.

nah, VIPs are not only senior members, they're guys which helped out a lot at LFE but are almost inactive now.

This new group we want to form just have lf2-versed members in, dont matter which. Adv Dcer is a bit elitism, dont you think? and why only having this for dc? ok I know dc is my fav so maybe it's a bit my wish, but in this group also versed spriters or fighters and polite members which just help out a lot would be welcome...

My suggestion:
Those usergroup moderates the "lf2-discusion", the "General Discussion" or the tournaments!

I'd suggest Lukas for the private tournaments.
Noir, Azzi and ES could get the title "champs".

I also think these new usergroup should check codes and stuff.
Another suggestion would be, that usergroup can make siggys and avis for the people, if they get a PM.....

Usergroup for modding and fighting stuff, but also for the LFE forum and the LFE-mainsite (findy typos, not working downloads, wrong sources etc...)
I HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH MY COMPUTER!
Please don't wonder when I suddenly dissapear for a while!

Do we really need a support team tho? The current forum team are helpful as it is. But then again I suppose a few more won't hurt.

A Support team, imo, should basically do what the name suggests, "support". Help and Support anyone who need help with anything such as Spriting and DCing in LF2 and other things pertinent in this forum.
Escape is a two-syllable word that grants temporary peace in the present to a future victim.

You're right, it's pretty stressful being an admin/moderator. Keeping LFE running and care about the forums which means: organizing/leading tournaments (which is MH's job most of the time), answering problems, reading every post / trashing spam / warning because of bad behavior to ensure a good atmosphere, testing stuff, etc....
And when you look at the forum staff, it looks a bit strange: there are
  • 2 admins
  • 1 super moderator and
  • 6 vip members
Since we have already over 1000 members registered (yes, the dead accounts are still a thorn in my eye), it's time to enlarge the forum team a little. At the moment, you can still get through all the posts but within half a year the amount of new posts, on a daily number, has doubled. If this trend will continue, there will be one day so many posts that only a fanatic will be able to read through all of them + answering them. Enlarging the support will be necessary, sooner or later. So, let's get this through now, then they'll have some time to get used to their new "job" ;)

Hmm, if that's the case, then I'd say that the support team is like a basic level of the staff. They have the ability to move/lock threads. If they actually happen to be specialized in one area, they could be given more power in that area. For example, this support member is a coder, so he could be given the task to help do some coding in the forums while the admins may be busy or doing the harder work. Then maybe this support member is an Advanced DCer, but he could be made into a support member specializing in DCing.

The support member cannot warn unlike a moderator (but if he is good enough, he can be promoted to a moderator. And moderators are like the higher level of support members). Now the report function can come in more handy - to ask the actual moderators during complicated situations, not just to report bad things to moderators.

Speaking of this, there should be another type of report, known as the "Request Lock/Move". For this report, you're simply asking the thread/post to be moved/locked (but also with a reason). Support members can view this type of report in particular and do any job necessary, and so do not really have to count on moderators. I suggest this because forum-posters do not actually look at every single section, but rather the sections that interest them. The poster may post in his thread "Can someone lock this?", but ends up it is not locked because none of the staff look at that section. I know the DC section has this or very similar to this, which is the "Solved" button, but I believe it can be applied to other forum sections as well.

It's a good way to help some members start out and have a taste of staff work before they advance up higher.
