I like the dust idea very much (if it really is that, if it's not, then make it )
And, although I think you don't care, there's one thing I noticed - the animation (?) of lights moves 1px down at some frames (?) and it kind of screw that animation. It's a very small thing, which you wouldn't notice in game, but if you want perfection you could fix it (then again, it might be the gif quality )

i can't see it and i don't know how something like that could have sneaked in since all animation frames were created from/above each other and exported (and the data is all copy paste so the y value can't differ either)

i guess it's because the loop isn't animated correctly here since it was too hard to make out - and then i just looped it with the breathing animations

hm... very funky naming there... I can actually imagine a lot of possibilities behind it.. is it just a different reaction when louis punches louis or is it about the metal weapons (aka amor parts)...or idk its so mystic.
You don't make very fancy stuff with sprites and all but still this project totally gives lf2 new air to breath, totally makes it live up as a new. (i mean I love the good ol' chars and you improve them in a way I always wanted to do it (though you have thought about a bit more than i did) )
can't wait for the next update.

Anyways, I don't quite get the reason behind Woody canceling his attack. And why is he facing the opposite direction?

no new background, sorry
this is an audiovisual effect
i have to admit the audio is more impressive than the visual
but i'm not gonna upload that (maybe in a video later)
just imagine a nice clang/zing kind of sound (a mix of rudolfs swords and louis' armor)
so there is a chance of this happening whenever some metal hits the metal of a character (louis/deep/knight mostly)

he's facing that direction because first of all that's the direction he's facing after the second kick (after the third he's turned forward again and ends it normally)
and also because you or the AI pressed that direction to cancel this move early and thus you obviously want to go that direction

the reason is simple
you missed your opponent
or you want to dodge an attack you would otherwise be running into
either way you were an easy target before because you were not able to control or stop this move and the opponent could predict where you are going
a small surprise that can turn tables

your thoughts on what it may be make me smile
