Here is the hexy solution you are looking for:
0041F66B C780 18030000 >MOV DWORD PTR DS:[EAX+318],8c <======= change this "8c" to "0". This will disable the +140 pick thingy for state 80xx.
Hope that helped :D (no need for state 40xx nor the dll sys)

That will break state 8xxx (which is required for stage mode) and "doesn't revert back to the original character like 9995 when going back to the char selection without cheat".

Oh my bad, i guess i misunderstood his question. And what is the use of state 8xxx in stage mode anyways? (other than change color of the bandit.)

thats pretty important - or how else do you quickly seperate friend and foe when they are the same character?

When you free "criminals", they usually have a different color than the enemies (most obvious is the blue Jan). The state 80xx shifts their pic by 140, letting them appear with a different spritesheet (the "friendly" spritesheet, f.e. bandit_0b.bmp). Now, if state 80xx would omit the pic shift, the freed criminals would have the same color as the enemies.

It's just a visual difference, but in the heat of the battle it's a big one.
