well, second one was just great before, its is great now, too.
First one looks pretty interesting, but the special thing about it is mainly in the middle and bottom. Means that the upper part isn't that interesting. But if you delete it, it would probably look so... restricted. I don't know how to say it. It would lose the impression of the wide sky a bit. So well, the upper part is bothering me a bit, but I don't know how to make it better.
Anyway, nice work.

In the second one look ground the man stands on like it has the wrong perspective. And the man himself doesn't fit into the rest of the style.
I also reacted to the smoke. It just doesn't look that good. I don't know why...
Otherwise it looks VERY good and it looks like you spent much time doing it... Good job!

The one without just isn't giving the desired amount of epicness
Or, to say it in other ways, if you clutter up a picture with only details, it gets pretty "heavy" in terms of layout. Too many details can destroy the entire image, that's why I left some quasi-blank space on both top and bottom .gif ";)")
