Couldn't create art surface problem - Memento - 07-19-2020
I (quite randomly) started to continue on an LF-Extended project (the wizard). Just for fun I guess. But now I've done something, in either the sprites or the data, that has bugged the file(s).
- On start-up, it has been showing the 'couldn't create art surface' error for a while, but it was able to load the game (error on the new ball sprites).
- Now, on start-up, it shows the messages, then closes down on wizard.dat (also shows it in temporary.txt)
- I have looked through the data files and can't find the problem, but it should be in wizard.dat or the sprites format I think.
It seems to have happened after adding sprites to Wizard_0 and wizard_1 (+mirror). As if it doesn't accept the save type. Tried both GIMP and Paint saving in 24-bit bitmap.
What would likely be the problem?

Nothing wrong with the Wizard data as far as I can tell from the info available there.
I'm aware that saving .bmp with certain settings can lead to the file not being readable by LF2, so re-saving in MS Paint should work (make sure to do the same to the _mirror).
Is the wizard data taken straight from Extended and moved to a fresh LF2, or are there other changes along with it?

I tried it for all the bmp files, in both GIMP and MS paint, with no result.
Before the game (data and sprites) did load. It's only after making a few small alterations, that it stopped working (and because I wasn't all too serious about it, there is no safe file XD).
The small alterations: added frame 300-302, changed the sprites, that's about it. So I think it must be something in the sprites somehow.
Could someone maybe try it in their version? Eventually replace the .bmp files.

I tired the data you posted and original wizard files, the only difference is yours ask for one new wav file, other than that everything works fine. Guess you should upload all of the current files

It's solved. Tried several things, including copy/pasting wizard_0 and _1 (+mirrors). Maybe I forgot to make a completely new .bmp file for it last time, as this time it has worked
