Newbie information

Hey all. There are quite a lot of threads lately about how LFE works, blah blah blah. Shouldn’t these things be in the help section? So a) update the help section and b) auto-PM new users to require them to read it. Stuff in italic means it should be put in the help section. Stuff underlined shows where there’s supposed to be a link.
This list is NOT completed. I'll be fiddling with it over the next week or so. I'm not too clear about some of the functions myself.


Forum Awards-
Only Administrators can hand out Forum Awards. Requests are generally not accepted. To earn a Forum Award, you must show the rest of the community your capabilities in whatever aspect the award is given for. For example, to earn a Fighter Award, you must consistently beat the members who’s fighting abilities are respected already, or show your talent for fighting through videos and such.

Warning Information-
Should be more clear about stuff you shouldn’t do.

User Registration-
Some parts of this forum may require you to be registered and logged in. Registration is free, simple and quick.
Once you register, you will be able to gain access to numerous member-exclusive privileges.

Subscribe to threads and forums. More details here.
Manage your own profile.

Replies and threads
To post a new thread, first you need to go to the forum suitable for that thread. Then simply click ‘New thread’ at the top of the page. Make sure your title is clear and sums up what you want to talk about.
To post a new reply, either use the quick reply function at the bottom of a page, or choose to do a full reply, the button is present at both the top of the page and the bottom. With a full reply, you can insert icons for your post; fiddle with the style of the text, etc.

Sometimes if you find a user’s post particularly helpful, there is a thank button at the bottom of each post to show your gratitude.
Or if you find the user’s post completely unhelpful and think it is spam, you can click the report button which is also at the bottom of a post, and a Moderator may disposal it.

well, the atuo-pm at start was an idea earlier, I think we trashed it cause nobody will read it, but updating the help section is fine.

Actually I got some outta LFE to do today, maybe I`ll have a look into it tomorrow - but I gotta talk through a big think with BP first, then we see further...

Reputations
Each user has his/her own reputation. Reputations are given for various reasons, examples include good behavior, lots of helpful posts, good progress in spriting, etc. However, that only applies to positive reputations. Neutral reputations can also be given along with negative reputations. Neutral reputations are when you feel the user has both good points and bad points, so they cancel each other out, resulting in a neutral. Negative reputations are for when you strongly dislike the user concerned for one reason or another, such as irritating posts and general unhelpfulness. Do not give reputations just because you can, this results in a warning and is part of the Forum Rules.

Private Messages
The Private Message function should be used when you only need to address an individual or a small group of people. This way, the forum is clean from loads of threads that only address one person. To send a private message, either click on a user's profile, and the 'Send [username] a private message' option will be there. Altenatively, go to your private messages, next to User CP, and select 'Compose' on the left hand side. However, for the latter, you must type in their username instead of it being automatic. You can also manage your private messages by clicking either 'Manage folders' which allows you to delete and create new folders, or by selecting 'Empty folders' which allows you to dispose of all private messages in a folder.

Some questions to nobody in particular-
On the reputation page, it says 'reputations from members' and 'reputation from posts'. How in the world do you get a reputation from posts?
And just to make sure- if you subscribe to a forum you receive some sort of notification (I have no idea what, and I'm too lazy to subscribe to one and wait until a post has been made) when there is a new post in that thread or forum, right?

Actually, you can also give reps from posts. However, we (as in: MH and I, I never can recall who did what) disabled that feature to reduce the abuse of the rep-system to a minimum (or, what we have currently).

You should've receive an email when a subscribed thread has been posted into. At least that was the way with MyBB 1.2 or so :P
Technically, it should still work the same way.
