Remove the gif image in mainsite
#1
On the front page, please remove the gif of contest 13. Instead, please make a hyperlink to
http://www.lf-empire.de/forum/images/for...-dixon.gif

i have noticed that since the beginning, the website was created to be very flashy and sorts for simple text. i mean, come on, one ad at the top and another at the side, plus drop-down menus and links everywhere. i know most of you website designers probably have 50 to 100 mbps or else you won't be able to upload your stuff.

but however, not everyone has the fast computer or the fast internet to load all these things. (neither does many have the patience). you guys may think its all cool and show off with all your flash, but actually, its quite the opposite feeling on my side. before the gif pic, the page was already filled top to bottom with tons and tons of pics. now, along with the gif, its even more of a mess. It is never a good idea to put flash on a main page. time taken to load that is the time wasted to load other links. this is especially true of the drop down menu's at the top, which takes much too long to load. :(

right now, to completely load the page will take about 1 min on my 15 mbps high speed. ofc you might laugh at me and this 1 min load time. but if you think 1 min is very little, then count to 60 secs right now. i assure you, its actually quite a long time for a single web page to load. rarely do i encounter a web page that takes as long as that one.

so, i suggest removing the gif and make a hyperlink to it.

also, since its been there a while now, most of us have seen that, so just put that as a hyperlink is enough.

thank you for your time. :)

The image isn't even 1 MB.
Are you sure it's not your connection or anything like that (possibly the server)?
I take less than 8 seconds with 30 MBps.
That should be only arround 16 for you.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.
One can learn a lot from reinventing wheels.
An unsound argument is not the same as an invalid one.
volatile in C++ does not mean thread-safe.
Do not make APIs unnecessarily asynchronous.
Make C++ operator > again
Trump is an idiot.

15mbps is max speed.

usually 2-3 times that.

that is w/o wireless.

actually, 16 is alot already hehe. its the same page i've seen 9001x times.. there is no point in having that flash there.

so whats wrong with removing it, and make it load faster when you can?

It loads in 10-15 seconds on my phone using a sh**** 3g connection which gets around 1.5 mbps...

First of all, the images get downloaded once and then are cached. It should basically load instantly after the first time it loads. Not to mention browsers are clever and do all sorts of stuff where they load images last etc.

Removing that gif will do nothing... unless you are still using IE 6 or something stupid like that.

PS: Adblock for ads, ad servers are always damn slow and can slow down webpages from loading :(

PSS: The drop down menus are just js/css, if they are "loading" slowly, that's your browsers/computers fault.

PSSS: I don't see any flash on the mainsite o.0

PSSSS: BluePheonix has literally the worst internet connection known to man...

well idk. i just know these..

-gif is the last to load. i can tell b/c the frame rate drops
-i have adblock.
-i'm using firefox 3, but yes i know my computer is bad. but it is about the requirements for lf2, and no lag there.
-no flash, but the website does get flashy without adblock and with the gif.. ;)

-no other page here takes that long to load :)

450seconds (aka 7min 30sec) to load the page from scrap entirely and throughoutly. I don't quite see your problem =P
Yes, Silva is right. Crappy connection all the way.

Well, on a more serious note, I can, if you're REALLY THAT MUCH bothered by it, make some sort of preview-image that'll link to the complete animation. Just a thumbnail at around 15kB, so that shouldn't be too heavy on your connection.

Just need to remind myself of it later the day :p
