Spritie Bug
#1
Hey, guys! I need a little help about how to make a sprite smooth.
I'll give you an example.
Look at the difference between PF and my sprite.
How to solve this(notice the outline)?

(i think) u sprited in big size (158x158) then resized right??! also before resizing what brush/tool did you sprites with?? and what program??

i use photoshop and if you are using gimp then that your problem.. since gimp brushes have less initialized edges, their more rough..
i did:
- sprite at 158x size on a transparent layer with a Photoshop default brush.
- resized back to 79x size and added the black layer + merged it with the sprite
- cleared the black bg with a 10% tolerance "clear" paint bucket.

hope this helps..

Yours is made with paint? If not, use brush tool instead of pen tool in the program you use, it makes smoother edges.
Might be back, might be not :^) anyways awesome to see you guys again!

Dude, I follow all your steps by using GIMP.

Before I know how to sprite, I make a thread called "spriting advice", remember? You told me to use the second brush(circle 03) + drawing in 200% or 400%.
My problem:
I resize from 158 to 79. Is that a problem?

If you really are using brush you maybe should check you have this option right (check it after you have copied/opened your base):

If it's smthing other than RGB the brush won't have the ''smooth effect''.
If you have RGB option selected but the sprite still doesn't look smooth, i guess the problem is too sharp contrast (too big difference between light and dark color). The problem shouldn't be in resizing since i think it just makes the sprites even more smooth.

He wouldn't be able to blur or fuzzy if he didn't choose RGB. That has nothing to do. Look at face or shirt - there is a smooth transition.

For resizing, GIMP offers various methods. There should be a drop-down menu with entries such as interpolation, cubic, linear, none and possibly others. I don't know how much of a difference those make or which the default one is, but it could be worth a check. Generally "none" is sharp and "cubic/interpolation" is smooth/blurred I believe. If it's already set on the later, then you most likely can't improve anything about the resizing.
I know I'm not the one to give spriting advices, but I usually use at least two types/sizes of brushes, depending on how smooth or detailed a part is supposed to be.
Other than that, perhaps posting the sprite at full resolution could be a good idea.
If all else fails, you could search for custom brushes. Apparently you also can convert photoshop brushes to GIMP-brushes in some way.
