Programs to edit video?

I need a light and simple program that features a timeline where we can input video and audio files and save the whole combination into a video file.

Just as simple as that. I don't need any effects, but transition effects maybe useful for my later works too. Premiere Pro is far too heavy for my laptop to run. I'm using Windows 7, and I have downloaded Windows Live Movie Maker and tried to install it but it always get stuck on 35%.

Please suggest me a (or some) programs that suits my needs . Thanks.
