hmmmm...not quiet sure what it is?
don't use template as a base it's not that very good for a stance first of all...

Some things I found:
-His left arm (his view) looks very weird. Does he has any?
-His head looks weird I think. I can´t say what but something bugs me there.
-You should shade more.

The funny thing is, your shading would be on the wrong side. You've blurred too much on the trousers. There is no shading or highlights properly done on the trousers, it's just light everywhere. One of his hands has gone and now been replaced with a half eaten arm. His forehead spans all the way to the back of his head and his hair looks relatively, undetailed?
1) Right, your light source will be the TOP RIGHT of the spriting image. this means that darker tones and shades should be on the left and underside of the sprite, except for in certain clothing folds. The highlights should be on the right hand side of the image.
2) Head needs shading properly.
3) Don't use template poses, you completely missed out most of his arm and left hand.
4) Add more detail to the hair, it does not sit on the back of the head unless he is an OLD MAN with a RECEEDING HAIRLINE.
5) Avoid the blur tool
I can't really say much good about the sprite, I'm sorry.. you will have to keep trying in future. You've got some elements of shading down actually, in the complete wrong direction but you've got them. So there's something to be happy about?
Good luck
From your loving fatherly figure,
Eddie
