Is there a program for making sprites? I searched almost all topics for a program. Because paint is not the best one (the colors don't work good and stuff.)
And please no photoshop.

Another question. Where are the .dat files located? In data file? If so, there are some strange words when i open it with wordpad and notepad. Anyone?

Two things, first of all... I do believe you can get the same potential of colors in paint as in any other graphics software. ie. photoshop... and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I love being corrected. :P
Second of all, but more importantly, it is not the program that makes the Spriter; it is how the Spriter uses the software available to him. For example, if I remember right Lutichris uses a hybrid of paint and Gimp to create his sprites. I for one... and absolutely hopeless with Gimp. I am relatively proficient with making a decent quality sprite, I am not one of the best... (*bows down to Apocalypsis), but I do know my way around my program. Not to mention, Paint, while minimal has so very good potential. Practice, practice, is what makes sprites (and of course, a graphics program is necessary).
The gist of it all: quality sprites do not rely on the graphics software. But the creator.
Back on to topic though:
As listed above, those are some good programs.
Some programs I have used in the past.
Paint.Net (when my computer with photoshop crashed, I used this as a temporary replacement)
Paint [MS] (started with paint, will finish with paint, I still use it in my sprites to today)
Photoshop (what I use to mainly create my sprites)
Sai (lol... this was an experience)
Flash (tried making some experimental bosses in it, came out with some decent sprites)
3D Studiomax (currently experimenting with...)
Gimp (tried and failed... I know it is possible though)
PhotoFiltre (used it way back in the day when I first started spriting)
Whatever you may choose, just stick to it. Don't underestimate any program that you use. Trial and error is your friend, find the graphics software that you are comfortable with.
As for anything related to D/C'ing or Data... just... don't ask me... I can't make heads nor tails of the lines of words and such... no matter how hard I try.
I apologize for any grammatical errors... I get in to a rant-ish mood every time I see this type of topic.
Best of luck to you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Gimp ( use it very easy and i think it's best )
PhotoFiltre ( if you're new , try it before you use gimp , but i think paint is better )
paint ( paint is the best for every one if you know how to use )
