I believe the best course of action would be to download the Ubuntu Live CD and try it by yourself. It allows you to try the OS without changing anything on your PC. This is, in my opinion, the most fair way to determine what you're going to do.

If you really want to compare OS then search the web a bit. There are many interesting articles (example) on the subject, but a first-hand experience is still your best bet.
