where's the letter G?
#1
My portable hard drive has always been assigned to drive letter G in the past two years. It got unplugged accidentally this morning and it's been assigned to a letter J. I tried to fix it back to G, but it's not even an option o.o

May some wizard help?

Let's think that you have drives A, B, C and D.
You have plugged all of them. But now you notice that you need C at school, so you take it off and continue your life. But now you have been such a stupid boy and accidentally unplugged D! Now you almost are hopeless, but then you notice you can plug it again. But, now D has turned to C! Why? Becouse C is free place and it comes before D!
So try unplugging the J and plugging something not needed -> it will appear as J.
Then try plugging the drive you want as G and hope that G comes after J (in computer language).
Good luck D:
Might be back, might be not :^) anyways awesome to see you guys again!

This strategy doesn't make anything even remotely related to 'sense'.
But since we're talking about computers, jup, i recommend trying this, could work.

reformat computer. lol.

anyways, it might be reserved for something like an sd card that you put in, turned off the computer, took it out, resulting in a phantom lost letter (in theory anyway). might work if you safely remove the sd card again (maybe).

(or some other random order of steps with other hardware devices)

Whaat's suggestion worked. Been flying around lately, so I haven't had time to report back. Thanks once again for those who bothered to reply (=
