Another suggestion is having new characters fusion instead of Freeze and Firen.

I wouldn't really rely on that, there's been a lot of mods already which go into this direction.

Fusion between Young Firen and Young Freeze should still be possible, creating... Young Firzen! Mwahaha

also pupils won't earn the fusion ability i guess.

brainwashed. they are beginning from stage 1-3 or so.. brainwashed.
so i am thinking maybe you can play them (plus their evil version) as hidden chars.. maybe

just so you guys don't think i have stopped working on it..
progress of template:
first special attack is done,
second is in the making of,
cleaned the remaining basic sprites (e.g strokes which have stopped halfway are now fully drawn)
done some frozen pics:

reason why i did this: always wondered why template has real fire pics but no real frozen frames. Didn't get the idea behind letting him have white ice frames, just because he is white doesn't mean that the ice should turn white as well.

You really should delete those ices (?) around your template at first frame, and leave only those who're on it.
Now it's looking like they're flying in the air ;oo

Template needs more opacity to blend better inside the ice. Now it looks like it is in front of the cube.
Did you work on his axe attack? I'd really like to see an improved version
