How can be in DOS?

Now when LF1 is disapearing I am making a question.

I have read from LF2.net that LF1 is only for DOS,but I have played it in Windows.And I know that DOS use only characters(numbers,letters),so how can LF1 be in DOS when LF1 is a game with graphics?

DOS is a textbased system BUT IT CAN also play graphical games (how do you think people played games in the 80's )
