erbuslayer there are many tutorials in the tutorial section and monolith posted a tutorial check it out
and about the sprite of yours the shading is very bad ill start by saying its very random, remember there is a source of light so the shading got to be on one side.
second the shading is barley visible make it brighter

Pretty nice, except that there are dirty black-like pixels around him after resizing.
And maybe his head is little too long, I'd try to put hair a little bit lower.
