You sprited the arms a little weird and the shading is too dark. You should also try practising in making eyes bigger and you should make a nose. You asked for a base so i just made one simple base: [Image: basekw.png]
It might not look that good but with a little recovering and a good idea it can look something like this: [Image: 4326324634fsf.png] - not my best sprite made it pretty fast. I have only one thing left to say Practise practise practise ;)

This is an inspiration from:
-YinYin's Character Development guide, to be more specific i took one of those bases.
-Urban Rivals' clan Skeelz, I took their uniform
I hope it's good. ^^

Base?

That will give you any idea how sprite should be shaded or shaped.

An awesome spriter's sig Wrote:1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.

I know I'm not very good too, but try like this, it helps me:

Base?
Make one from the original or anything, save it as a template file. Once you want to sprite, make a copy and do on it.(unless you're trying different postures)

Tool?
I bet more than 40% of us here make tutorials about spriting on GIMP and sprite their sprites on GIMP too(including me), so I think you should try at least.

Shading?
Ok, this is weird for me. I learn to shade by looking carefully on Marti's sprite(including HF chars too), I look the way of the shading flows, the place where I should add the shade and carefully make a sprite with good shading.(I'm not "AWESOME", don't try to offend me, I try to help)

Hair?
I think there's one on the mainsite and another by Monolith.(Both doesn't help me, though:()
This place motivates me to become an artist, this place motivates me to learn coding, this place made me grow up, showed me the ways to interact with people. Unlike the old childish of me myself, I've learned a lot and gotten some experiences. For me, it's not just a fan forum, it's a helpful community. From a noob to someone who would think before he speaks, looking back at my old post made me laugh hard, I'm grateful of the differences between these 2 years.
