Character: Curly Brace

Curly Brace is the female combat robot from Cave Story. During the previous contest (#19) I decided to turn her into a playable LF2 character. The design was inspired by this and I am also using the gun from it. Since the contest I let people who liked the sprite test two alpha versions and got a lot of great feedback (some of which I haven't actually been able to address yet). And now that all her core features are finally done I would love to get even more feedback on the first beta. (especially from those who have not tried her before/were more critical of the first sprites)

For installation you just need to put the folder "curly" (with all files from the download) into your LF2 directory and add these lines to your data.txt:

As a ranged character armed with a machine gun this is a pretty experimental project:
Press and hold attack to shoot, but try not to overheat it or it will explode right in your hands.
The mp bar will display the weapons accumulated heat. If it is too high, trying to shoot will instead trigger its emergency cooling.

Oh... I-I think I just jizzed myself. I never thought she'd be a full character. Just why her panties though? I saw the artwork and I'll just say I'm not used to seeing her like this.

Well legs without clothes are what I usually have most trouble with spriting especially since LF2 does not have any sprites like that. For the contest I wanted to practice that and liked the artwork. I do consider creating a second sprite sheet with pants, shouldn't be too hard.

Haha, giving tips for YinYin, what a nonsense.
But i'll try :P

-This blurring in running, heavy running and jumping frames isn't very lf-stylish. It looks better in jump attack, colors aren't that confluent.
-Not moving legs in weapon attacks looks really awkward.
-Maybe she could lean forward a bit more during heavy weapon throw.
-Her foot protrude from ice block.
-Does she have to drop weapon during shooting in the air?
-Would be cool if after activate bubble shieldshe could cooling a gun and/or drink, without disappear of shield, as long as she not moving.
-As for special attack i'd suggest her move from cave story when she is as a boss. She have to spend a while of time for charging a gun and then shoot a serie of missiles. (i guess you already have it planned)
-Animation of overheating a weapon, during shooting in the air probably isn't possible?
-Maybe a little faster turning in air? (j+d)

What can i say at the end? As you said it's experimental char and gameplay is pretty different. I had a lot of fun in stage mode, even if controls still kinda confuses me.
There was some bugs, but i guess you already know them all. Once she just stood in the air, yay!
Great char as always, and stuff. It's YinYin's work so how could it be otherwise? I want to someday see a project from you, which actually is sucky :P

Ah - it's been noted before, but I haven't gotten around to fix it. Nothing better than reminding me of it.

Yeah I want to shift her feet on the last frames just like the throwing animation.

And probably lift a leg too I agree.

Foot and one of her antennas, not sure whether that's a problem and I have to expand the ice?

Great idea, will add that.
special attack
I don't know which version you've been playing but on all the ones I've played she only charged her gun. So basically I don't plan to give her any special moves in the conventional sense, maybe other extras though.
overheating animation in the air
Technically should be possible, but for the short amount of time you can do this and the difference it would make I think it's not worth the trouble. Maybe I will reconsider it once critically overheating actually gets punished with self damage.

Actually no. She shouldn't be standing in the air at any time. Maybe balance one one foot to quickly turn and kick people.
If you find jarring bugs, do post the circumstances.

Even if it takes less time, gun still can explode in air, so if it's not too troublesome, add it.

Smaller "wait" in the frames. I think she spins a little too slowly.

After learning proper control, amount of "bugs" drastically decreased :P
But still left some:

-Sorry, I couldn't repeat situation when she stood in the air and start to shoot, it happened only once.

-Again i can't tell when exactly it happen, but sometimes she is starting to shoot in the air, while she's just few pixel above the ground. It's happening somehow during running/dashing.

-After quick pressing jump and backward, she's turned to wrong direction.

And at the end john shield + bubble shield:

I doubt if it's really disturbing bugs, but whatever, maybe it will be helpful.

Very nice character :D I always wait for your chars to be released YinYin.
Here are some feedback:

1. I don't know if everyone have the same thought with me but... her face pic is haunting me to death x_x
2. The run+j+a looks awkward. I think it should be look more powerful :D
3. There is a sprite bug when she stand at the edge of the screen and use the bubble. The moving screen will push a thin bubble rim out of her.

4. I have been thinking about the idea of regenerating mp after each shot and drain them all after reaching a certain amount and also called it myself "overheat". I never thought that i can see it here. It's a surprise xD (just my thought)
5. There are some feedback that The Hari said it already :P

This is me wanting to keep a normal dash attack and shooting. You can use it for a cool combo btw.
