Gonna take a while for the next release. My PC kinda died and new I have to install all my stuff on a second one (don't worry, I was able to save the project).
Yes, PNG with all its features will be allowed.
Also I just noticed that with the right timing you can dash attack backwards... I thought I fixed that <.<

just in case anyone is wondering why there are no updates:
seeing a-mans a-engine, i kinda lost motivation on doing this lf2 clone. i mean, whats the point if his engine is much nicer for people to modifiy and such?
but this isnt the end of my programming work. i rethought what i could do with a lf2-like engine...
and i decided upon a roguelike/rpg.
imagine it like this:
  • you create your character like in a typical rpg: choose a hairdo, haircolour, clothes, maybe race etc etc.
  • you start with a blank movelist and no mp or hp regeneration.
  • when leveling up you get skillpoints, allowing you to unlock new skills, highen your damage, defense, speed etc.
  • from shops youll be able to buy new armoury, weapons etc. youll only be able to carry a specific amount of equipment with you.
  • you will be able to set which button combination will do what, which weapon to use for each attack etc.

basically in time you will make your very own character. if possible i will combine this with a story, otherwise i will do a binding of isaac - like roguelike, with the exception of infinite stages.
that basically means the general structure (for example stage 1: enemies; stage 2: boss; stage 3:enemies etc.) will stay the same each time you start a new game, but the content of the stages (the enemies, available shops etc.) will be randomized.
i wont make the game customizable, though i will be glad to hear suggestions about new items, game structure changes etc.

i hope you guys like this idea :D

This looks cool, but also seems like you're in need a looooot of graphic help.
I wanted to create such a thing too, where you're leveling up etc, choosing every spell by yourself, but i was defeated by lack of sprites, so i decided to create a simple flash game.

thats true.
it wont be as much spriting work as for usual lf2 though, as i will use a similar technique as your flash templates.

also for starters theres always beta graphics and recolours :D

Well Bambi, that's what I talked about when I mentioned that time would be used better if you used your engine for a completely new styled game (may or may not be related to LF2) instead of a direct clone with enhancements. :p Reading about your ideas even makes myself pretty excited ;)

Shock.. But dude, you had a clear advantage of being able to port to smart devices and such. Not to forget to mention how your engine made use of direct GM code for character scripting which allowed the use of all the regs, vars and funcs stuff I did. Even better, one would've been able to have for loops and even condition whole frames with a simple if-else statement. The use of registers would've been infinite, and one would be able to give them descriptive names unlike the ones I have now. And well, that made me feel guilty..

A very creative approach I got to say. It would be really cool if you would people here to contribute with clothes, parts and such. Something you can consider is to have the player pick choices that can directly affect the ending; like there can be a case where you lose one of your mates to evil or something, while in other scenarios, you get one of the evil people to your side.
Another thing I felt LF2 has lacked is a Giant boss. Some guy who's really big and all, and you fight him with all the heroes. Would be cool if you can add some platforming mechanics on the boss itself and give him a weak spot that requires you to climb and hit him in his head or something.

Good luck!, and really, keep this up!
