I think the sort of mixed Trance-Dubstep style of Seven Lions really got me into trying to make something. I'd listen to the song, try to break down the various elements used, and I'd just try to find out HOW a particular sound was made. Experimenting on VSTs (NI Massive FTW!) helped out.
But TBH, I never really became serious till I was introduced to the Monstercat label. They just blew me away. I mean, so many styles, unique in their own way. I realised that an artist can have their own unique sound, from different ideas and even from different times. For instance, the artist Nitro Fun of Monstercat combines 8 bit sounds with a sort of Complextro style. Not only that, they remain open to ANY style: Trap, Electro, Dubstep, House, Glitch Hop, DnB, etc.
But in the end, I did use music as a means of expressing myself, as you did.
Oh haha, I know what you mean. I actually used to listen to monstercat when it came out. But the forgot it pretty quickly because all the EDM I used to listen became kind of repetitive to my tastes. And brought little to no emotion. But I didn't know that monstercat actually became a big and supportive label. Wow

It varies. Some of the times I cut them from other songs or samples, sometimes I find something in Logic's libraries, sometimes I use google, when I know what to search for. But I don't have any good website which contains nice sample packs. My friend does that when we both make beats, lol
I could ask him where he gets samples if you want me to.

What do you exactly mean by layer? Maybe it's some kind of different process on FL?

This is not a question, I'm afraid.

It was a lithuanian book called "KGB vaikai" (children of KGB). Quite a nice thriller/detective, really enjoyed it.

That would be making games. I actually was into programming, but that was long ago. I still have unfinished and drafted ideas that I wouldn't be able to code by myself. Want to finish that in the future.

I couldn't do it technically.

Do check out Monstercat again! I'm sure you'll be surprised at how much it has grown!
Although you won't see Ephixa (apparently on hiatus), there are so many styles to choose from right now. New artists, as well.

Layering means, well, using different elements on the same pattern and then trying to filter out whichever part of whichever element you need to make your sound seem...fuller.
I guess it's an FL term.
I usually just take a sample, then apply some Compression, sometimes use a limiter, and the EQ it to give it some shape.

How many musical instruments can you play?
Do you visit the LFE IRC channel?

Oh, yeah, I do it when necessary. Especially on synths and drums. Although I think the term for that is parallel compression?

Guitar, bass, some piano and looking forward to learning drums. Then going to try horns :D

Not anymore. I just dislike the atmosphere there. Especially the one created by doix, haha.

Hm. Maybe. Although I often just hear the term "layering your drums" instead. Maybe it's called parallel compression as well.

Can you draw? :P We'd all love to see a drawing made by you
Do you have a beard in real life?

I can't. And no, you wouldn't.
I only had one good piece that I'm proud of but I left it in my home (in Lithuania) so I'm afraid I can't show you that right now.

It has to be Wizard for the Extended LF2 mod. Second place takes modified sheets of Justin wielding claws made long ago by Alectric for my mod. These were some outstandingly motivating sprites.
