Virus, pretending to be Anti-virus program
#1
I was looking through any new posts in LFE, and I didn't click a link or ad.

But then, all out of sudden, my LFE tab was entirely blanked out in white, and there was a message box saying that I need an Anti-Virus software, because malicous programs were deteced.
I was given the option of "OK" and "Cancel", so I naturally clicked cancel and was taken to a page mimicing "My Computer", which had a bar filling up below the hard drives, saying something like "Installing Anti-virus program". I quickly closed the tab and didn't think of taking a screenie. I was far too paniced.

I don't think the virus is LFE-related, but I still think it is important for MH to know about this, one can never be a 100% sure.

Meh, that's why I use adblock-filters. LFE is being sponsored by ads and this is one of those annoying ones again. Gotta talk to MH if it's really necessary to keep them in here, seeing that a couple members have already complained about viruses they got from those ads.

Actually you encounter that kind of virus-ads-whatever quite often in the www...

If you try to click "cancel", be completely sure, that your cursur doesnt turns into a HAND (hover over the word to see what i mean)... usually, its no choose-box, but just a giant image link ^^

I gues the best solution is an ad blocker.
There is a link in my sig.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.

Do not make APIs unnecessarily asynchronous.
Make C++ operator > again

Just recently encountered this too.
I was just looking around, and was suddenly linked to this fake site.
I didn't quite get a picture of all the pop-ups, but here's the page itself:

i use google chrome, and currently dont have the flash plugin installed for the ads, yet they pop up anyway, and i havent had this problem yet.
im not sure it is a virus, and if it is, it should only be screwing around in your browser, and possibly sending info to the origin.
If it isnt, i suggest you download Spybot search & Destroy, that program always wins :D
coz its just as likely a worm

Yes, I encounter that virus to! But on a different site, things that I notice was that the person who programmed that virus was reaaaaaaaaaallllllllyy smart! He can find out your IP Adress , country (Probably tooken from the IP adress) but the thing I'm confused about is, if he can do those things can't he/she hide the fact that they are trying to hack a another person's computer? It's preety obvious that person is hacking.
P.S
Even a Windows Firewall can help you, it stops almost everything (Besides Windows process) from connecting to you! Unless you have them in your exception list..But it can't stop something online, I remember there was a online internet thing...

I wouldnt say.

Those things are send through any http connection between a server and a client.
In php if you write:
    PHP-Code:
echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

It will tell the users ip address.

And as you said country is probably from the IP address.

Even more info at http://danasoft.com.

I could probably make something like this to.
