What's bugging me about the karate davis is that some parts of his old trowsers are still visible. Same with the recoloured one. also karate-davis is lacking shading.
Other than that they are not too bad. What you have to avoid is using those fully saturated (aka. neon) colours. Especially the recoloured guy has that problem.
Itachi looks ok, but I'd prefer a slightly brighter tone so that you can see shadows and highlights. Additionally, please stick to a neutral background, the red hurts the eyes over time. I prefer the first version btw.
Still, not bad for a newcomer. I'd like to see some more, but I'd advice you not to do sratches yet, stick to a base for now.

paint.net
1) adjust brush size...
2) (did you?) zoom in to ~=800%
3) how do you use it??(i mean how you draw sprites with it?)
4) hoorah someone else uses it...

btw: yea karate looks best, but shade...

When i find the idea , for example the karate one, i just painted him white with brush size 2 and then a black belt, starting to shade ( need a bit more practice at shading), zooming 700% in it

Try using a even darker colour like grey for the shadding. But i do think your gonna get better. Reading some tuts really helps. I find my way with these:
PF's sprite detail tutorial
Eddie's base making tutorial
Chishio's shading, hair and head tutorial
Alolectric's 2 in 1 head tutorial
Gad's random sprite making

And you could try doing more than just simple edits. Make some new hair, clothes. If you wan't to make it better make a new face maybe add a weapon and so on.

Anyway hope i helped :)
