I think I should point some things out here (which I didn't like):
*Font is too small.
*The shading is kewl and all, but somehow it still looks flat to me (maybe it's because of his standing - seriously I wouldn't stand like that) - that's not about your tutorial, but about your example sprite (which is important also).
Other then that it is simple and nice tutorial, with which you could make some nice production of sprites.
