The one with the hair is definitely better. You should add some shading to it, though.
The head of the scythe seems a bit too thick to me( length is ok), but otherwise it's fine.
For colouring weapons (or any other kind of shiny metal), you should use rather strong highlights. You may also do some light-reflexes, but that isn't necessary. And yeah, looking at the original LF2 or real pics usually helps a lot.
