So, let me get this straight...you are asking us to show respect and help newcomers?
Well, there's nothing wrong with that...we learned things here and it's only natural to pass them on to the new generations. Except for one thing. Respect, you know, has to be mutual.
Newcomers desreve to be respected as equal, true. But only those who respect us as the community as well. Therefore, if a new members registers and doesn't bother to even read the few simple rules, then I don't plan on showing him respect, because he clearly doesn't respect this forum.
As you put it, and I quote:
A member posts a thread, asking for help. He could have easily searched other sections a bit before posting, and if he did not understand something, he could have posted and linked to that respective thread. Aside from that, he breaks some other forum rules (f.e.: spam, necroing, etc.)
Are you asking me to respect such a member? Seriously?
If I answered his question and pretended he did nothing wrong, how is that going to help?
He came here, asking us for help. It's only natural and logical he shows some respect, and then we will, as good members, help him. If he doesn't bother to do that, then hell, I will not bother as well.
Why do we even have the rules, if newcomers are excused in not following them? Are they here just for show, so we can act like we have "laws" and "order" and such?
To conclude, you (forum staff) promised you will enforce the rules more when you revised and updated them. Do that.
But don't only enforce them on us, "experinced" and "old" members, sanction the newcomers too. If they disrespect us by not following the rules, then they don't deserve our respect.
The end.

So when he reads the rules and shows the minimum respect to this community, then he can come back and we can help him with his problem.
Quote:Secondly, think about the original target age of LF2 and relate it to new forum members' behaviour.A Latin principle says: Ignorantia iuris nocet. Or in English, being ignorant of law harms. It doesn't matter who they are and how old are they, the first thing they should do on a forum is read the rules. The rules are simple enough to be understood by a 9-year old, so you don't have a case to begin with. Once again, not knowing the rules does not excuse.
Quote:Thirdly, you can be harsh, but also be encouraging rather than slapping downright dismissals all the time.Once again, if he did not read the rules, used search and mainsite at least remotely, then he deserves to get some harsh replies as he clearly did not bother to show even a small degree of respect to us.
Quote:Respecting others on the other hand, whatever level they are atHere's a typical situation:
A member posts a thread, asking for help. He could have easily searched other sections a bit before posting, and if he did not understand something, he could have posted and linked to that respective thread. Aside from that, he breaks some other forum rules (f.e.: spam, necroing, etc.)
