I'd certainly give a mod a shot. However, in my eyes, you should get a tad more familiar with creating characters/weapons/generic objects. Surely, you got the basics down very well, but as mod-making is taking loads and loads of patience, it's best to skillfully dish out stuff at a high pace. Hence, I'd recommend to do some sort of experimental project like another char after batman so you can get accustomed more to the process
