I mean if we count every sprite in the sprites section we could easily achieve +100 'original' chars (original in the way it'll twist the fusion in an interesting way), just imagine the possibilities.

I counted the number of chars and I don't know how many would be actually useful, but I did a little combination and the number of 'fusions' possible would be 15753. I may have counted wrong, but yeah, it's definitely huge.
