After a little correspondence with Wiro, I’ve got the impression (he even dropped me this link) that he wants me comment of his project. So that’s what I’ll do.
First of all, diss the fighting against animals concept. Learn from mistakes. LFO was a big mistake (read more in the shorty hijacked Sieg’s thread), when it took that path. You don’t want to seem like a racist by not drawing black people? Well, why do you want to offend animal right activists then? Let me tell you: censorship is for immature people with a lot of insecurities. It stifles creativity, sometimes murders it. Go for realism. Depict real people for what they really are. Or… you can always choose a fantasy world. Choose wisely. (And for such a long project, I’m astounded that it still feels that you haven’t decided.)
Liana is an innovative, if somewhat useless idea. I remember playing a fight with a friend once, when he chose Goku. And since I’m pretty good, whenever in trouble, he just flew into the air to recover some portion of his health. It’s a good tactic, but it’s pretty annoying. Not annoying as that Jamaican break-dancer, Eddy Gordo, from Tekken, but comes close to second. So, I ask then, will this be a recovery only of a Tarzan move? Will I be able to hit the player hanging on the rope? I better.
Banana peel is, to put it plainly, comedical. It’s a good idea done right and I don’t have much critics for it, except, oh, dear God, why is it exploding? Turds on fire, yo! Someone call the fire brigade!
Rungu-club, also known as the ancient Indian smoke pipe, looks (from what you can see) too damn dark. Adjust the gamma a little and it’ll be okay. On second thought, as a short weapon it’ll be of no use, but as a throw-able it’ll be a joy to sling it at someone’s face. And it better do a lot of damage. Like an instant knockout, not as lousy baseball. Glorious rungu master race.
1st (Savanna) stage is mediocre. It’s like a kid just learned how to cut different pieces of paper and glue them together. And that’s indeed what he did. Without using the blur tool.
2nd (Desert) stage look worst. Bland, uninspired, colorless, texture-less and… okay, the blurred and dusty part is good. Why didn’t you do it with the rest of the background. Dust is an easy effect to make with transparency. Try it. Now.
3rd (Mt. Kilimanjaro) stage looks best. Just give it and oil painting effect and it’ll be perfect.
What would I like to see in your stages is more variety. Why confine yourself to grass and sand and foliage? Do an arctic, volcanic, coastal or what have you stage. Go crazy and have fun. My suggestions: use more effects, smooth the edges, make plans, don’t give up, call your Mother and say hi for me. You heard me.
