LF2 Character Ideas

it just popped into my head - all at once
you've had this before too right?

move set (classic LF2, only 4):
D>A BOW & ARROW
DvA BOMBS
D>J HOOKSHOT
D^J SPIN ATTACK

special features:
LEFT HANDED (different mirror sprites)
SWORD BEAM (at full health or close to)
SHIELD ATTACK
FAIRY

time to go into the creamy details
the work required here consists of everything
simple things, very difficult things, time consuming things, etc
i am 100% sure i would never be able to do this alone
& i would never settle with anything less than perfect
so this would be quite a task - something i will never tackle alone
even tho i might try to accomplish some of the data solutions just for having them

the move set isn't really the most interesting or difficult part
but still essential so here it is

BOW & ARROW D>A (Click to View)

this one is obvious and one of the easiest things to do i guess
extra features in order of importance:
repeatable +A+A+A+...
strong version D>A<
aerial version J+D>A+...

BOMBS DvA (Click to View)

I've thought up many possible ways to do this one but the best would be to simply crouch and lay a bomb on the floor (heavy object)
can be picked up right away DvA+A
has a timer after which it explodes

HOOKSHOT D>J (Click to View)

quite difficult to pull off neatly but I've already seen characters doing this quite well
will only pull an opponent close and leave him standing in the dance of pain before you
if i can think of anything awesome it would also pull you towards crates, but this seems minor

SPIN ATTACK (Click to View)

obvious and easy one
extra features in order of importance:
charged version D^J<
aerial version J+D^J

on to the special features
these are the much more difficult and interesting things to plan/sketch/create

LEFT HANDED (Click to View)

the most difficult feature to accomplish in my opinion
we have already thought of using different mirror sprites for a character before
but there are several problems that do not allow this on normal characters
with link this could work:
first of all link has his sword and shield on his back when moving
(walk/run/jump/etc ... well that's more of a thing i would like to have that way)
so for these mainly the position of these has to be slightly shifted for standing left/right
when attacking with his sword the motions have to be either perfectly symmetrical even tho performed with another hand
or the interacting areas have to simply overlap/be the same - so the left and right slashes could actually look way different
the animation sequence still has to be the same of course
items will be stored in his endless bag - so during normal movement they will not be visible at all
when attacking with them he will wield them both handed to allow mirroring
(gotta use that common item-out-of-the-bag/into-the-bag sound every time he uses/picks one)
drinking (and possibly throwing) will stay on the front hand so he will actually do that with both right and left hand as usual
but all actions still have to be sprited for facing left and right
sounds like a nightmare doesn't it

SWORD BEAM (Click to View)

a feature that hopefully works as smooth in reality as it does in my head
with more than 490 hp every normal attack (punch/super punch/run attack) will create a sword beam
with less than 490 hp these attacks stay normal

SHIELD ATTACK (Click to View)

easy feature
very first frame of normal defending allows the shield to reflect projectiles
if pressing DA the shield will also bash opponents
otherwise the defense is normal so timing is crucial for this
(well it should get an extra sound when hit)

FAIRY (Click to View)

this one is just icing on top of the cake
randomly having a fairy pop in and out of his hat
circling link and opponents

and here some of the basic actions (Click to View)

'punch'
pulling the sword&shield and either doing a horizontal or vertical slash (2 for dop)
last frame (putting them on his back again) in state 0 to allow continuous attacking and 'super punch'
'super punch'/run attack
a sword stab, maybe a different slash for the 'super punch'
otherwise same as 'punch'
jump attack
possibly a simple kick or a normal sword slash
dash attack
the typical sword jump attack with a special landing
for >>JA it could also include the extra upwards slash at the start (from twilight princess)
grab attack
normal knee attack would suffice/fit best with lf2 imo
