Hmm, this is pretty nice. Personally, I think the size of the selections (especially the text) went a tad too large. A bit smaller text plus icons should do just fine.
Also, how about a little "Help"-menu. Something which basically explains how this works and what each icon corresponds to (so pretty much your first post inside the swf ).
Furthermore, it'd be good if you added some sort of back-button. Happened to me that as soon as I clicked the Stage-button, I realized that I wanted to check VS instead. You could maybe do something like this:

omg and don't forget to stop the video before going back to mode or character selection screen because the video will continue running
