If it's not war, then, the only possibility I got left is:
-Alien Invasion: "I hate the number 2012, you got lucky that we destroyed the wrong one in -2012, so this time, you won't be so lucky"

Heh heh. Good one.
Strangely enough, I imagine the aliens being similar to humans, just with special powers such as controlling fire or ice or whatever and being able to fire plasma cannons at everything until everything is dead, then blowing up the Earth just because they want to. And then destroying the moon.
Must have hit my head too many times :-\
