hmmm, the first one looks a little... pixelated... do you have any opportunity to blur it a little? Also, beams usually don't look that smooth, maybe you should add some particles and smudge them a little, so that the beam doesn't look so homogeneous.
Same for the second one, with the particles.

Still, they look pretty cool. Which program did you use?
