The problem with the Liquify-tool is that the sprites will either become blurry or "watery" (which is pretty much why the filter is called that way). One would have to overpaint the problem-zones to get back the sharpness. And then, you could also just start out with a new document, draw a template and color that one. Might be much easier to get the proportions correctly. Also, it doesn't really give you the LF2-proportions; it just gives you an approximation. When I take off my glasses, the images look pretty much undistinguishable (but that might also be related to the fact that I'm half-blind :p).
The Liquify-tool is a good method to fix small flaws but it'd be way too much effort to fix a disproportioned sprite. Much quicker to redraw it entirely :p
